Anyone reading comparisons to 2004??? Are they on CRACK???

Ok - I need to vent here...and it might be a stream of consciousness....but I got to go off. I just read Howard Bryant's article on espn.com (by the way - I am certain he was contracted to write this article by the Red Sox.....). The premise - Phils won Game 5 - and all of a sudden things have changed in WS - massive momentum shift.....these Yanks have a similar feel to the 2004 Yanks - same situation - losing a pivotal Game 5 and we're on our way out. Howard - are you f^&**(*& serious???

So let me get this straight - anytime we get to 3 games and anything - if we win it all - will it go away? Or will haters go on and on about 2004?

I mean - Howard Bryant's got to be right - our pitching staff looks exactly like the one in 2004 - our frontline guy named Kevin "I'm a beaten man" Brown going to the mound followed by Javy "I'm still finding myself" Vasquez in a must win Game 7? I don't know about you - but I knew it when I saw Kevin Brown on the mound during the first inning during that game - I knew we were beat. Here's the difference people - we ain't the same team. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

Much respect to the Phils team and their fans before I go off here......Here's the stats on Game 5 - it Girardi didn't air out the pen and let some of our guys get their work in - that game would have been TIED in the later innings. AJ holds it down to a respectable performance - and chances are we're done there.  As everyone knows - our offense can come back at you in a hurry.....just ask Charlie Manual - and his decision to "rest" Lidge (code word for we need this game and....we know YOU can F^&* him up).

Phils - your lineup is dangerous - much respect there. We've seen the power. But last night wasn't a decisive win - wasn't a we're back in the saddle of this thing - we're dialed in now - here we come. In those late innings - you were running scared - and we smelled it. You could see it all over Jimmy "We're done in 5.....6 if we're nice" Rollins' face when he was being interviewed........fear.

Anyone check the stats on when we played the Phils during the regular season? The Phils played our Yankee team PRIOR to the All Star break - BEFORE WE GOT LOCKED IN. Two close games - and one won by 3 runs. We ain't the same team then boys......just ask the Red Sox - they'll tell you all about it after starting out a cocky 8-0 against us and securely in first place....ask them how THAT scenario turned out....

Back to the 2004 comparison - the 04 Sox had the advantage of playing us 19 times during the regular season - seeing Mariano how many UMPTEEN times during our years together. Hey JRoll - they can really say they had a plan against him.  Hey Howard - here's one for you. 2004 Yanks were playing in the ALCS - not in the WS in a national ball park where they lose the DH and Posada until the late innings - DUMBASS. And it was against a team we've been battling for YEARS. In the end - here's the most important difference between the 2004 Yanks and these 2009 Yanks - they got something to prove. They have fun together, they are a TEAM, and most important difference - they got HEART.

NOBODY expected us to go in there and sweep the Phils at home. Sorry - wasn't expected - that team is very good. But we did EXACTLY what we were supposed to - go and get 2 at Citizen's bank and come home to the confines of our house and look to get it done.  We're EXACTLY were we're supposed to be - in command of the series with TWO chances to close this out - not with our backs against the wall desperation.

Game 6 - Andy vs. Pedro - anyone see the perfect irony here? It'll be battle - and I'll be nervous as hell - but deep down - this team feels like the Yanks team of old....they just got to prove it. 1 to go - with our horse with the biggest heart on the hill - a duel away from a championship with an old foe who was part of the epic 2004 collapse and a key cog to the Red Sox 2004 road to series.....almost as if this is the necessary road to prove it.

Alright Andy - get locked in. A-Rod et all......get it done. 1 to go........

Finally.....Howard Bryant....respectfully - you are a complete idiot.

P.S. Thanks to Philly Inquirer for the disrespect to the Yankees...good luck with the karma on that one :).

Of course....

any time the Yankees have to go to a 6th game..where they are up 3-2…that’s always the question.

And well….there’s really nothing you can say. That was obviously worse, they’re up 3-0. But until they do it….what else are you gonna say?

You can’t ask a journalist like Bryant to go and figure out the differences between the teams…god forbid he does a little research on WHO actually was playing.

Yet..what are we gonna say? We all should know the players are different. If anything, this Phillies team is more like the 2004 Yankees…with 90 y/o Pedro and Hamels/Happ/Blanton whoever for whatever else…that’s more like Brown and Vazquez.

But until the Yanks put em away…and they will, this is the idea that fools like Bryant will come up with on a day off……

DO WHAT JERRY HAIRSTON DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That because they have an agenda...

They could just as easily point out the many years we were in this position and won the title. But that doesn’t sell copy now does it? Controversy sells man…

I've gotten used to this sort of thing

I have watched and followed the Yankees since my earliest childhood memories of the 1962 season (I was 3). My home town is Binghamton NY where at that time, the Binghamton Triplets were the Yankees AAA farm team until 1968 and that year, I watched Thurman Munson play. So I am NOT some recent bandwagon jumper by any stretch of the imagination. I have also traveled extensively as an Air Force NCO for 21 years and lived all over and everyone just always seems to HATE the Yankees wherever I go outside of New York. Even the Fox announcers make no effort whatsoever to hide their disdain for the Yankees.

What I’m getting at is that you can learn to revel in that spot because it is simple jealousy being displayed. The Yankees are the epitome of a great franchise. They EXPECT to win every year whereas other teams HOPE to win every year. They spend money (obviously WELL chronicled) and make no apologies for it. They write out huge checks to MLB every year to help finance the teams of the same fans who denigrate us. We know that and so do they. Our ownership is no more wealthy than other teams owners, but the difference is that ours is willing to spend their money year in and year out to try and field the best team on earth. Often it fails and in spite of that, they continue to expect to win. That one thing NVER changes. Other teams’ owners could do the exact same thing but yet don’t. They are satisfied with gate receipts and TV money and if they win, great but hey we still made money right? Right. And why do we get all the big name, big money free agents to spend this money on? Simply because the Yankees expect to win and the great players want to be part of an organization that demands excellence and will make whatever moves are necessary to assure that can happen. Other teams’ fans would cut off an arm to have that sort of commitment from their ownership, their players and their fellow fans. So without that commitment, they are left like red-headed step children (no offense to you red heads out there) knowing that the Yankees ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE built from the ground up to win and it galls them and always will. No reason to get upset over it really because we are fans of the most dedicated to winning franchise in the history of sports and everyone, our counterparts around the league and ourselves know that.

No they're not

I’ve been a Yankee fan for almost 50 years ! They blow this World Series and YES it’s like 2004 all over again for me. WHY, let’s see, up 3 games to 1, go back home 3 games to 2, and lose both games on your field ! I will be very frustrated and add this to my collection of letdowns (1960 – Mazeroski ends series; 2001 – one of Rivera’s rare blown saves coming in Game 7; 2004 Up 3-0 vs Beantown).

Don’t want 2009 to end in this category. I’m really feeling good about my man Pettite.

Added note

’Mr. Hyde ’ Burnett – total letdown. Reason for Yankee fans losing Game 5.
His 16.5 M a year salary………………………pathetic.
Do you remember how he used to badmouth the Yankee org. when he pitched for Toronto. I guess money talks, BS walks.

Tex (180M package)………………gimme a break. Yes an above average player but no way like my favorite active ballplayer today………Albert Pujols

Phils fan checking in.

I personally am amazed at all the articles saying that it’s like 2004 for the Yanks again, but I think its because the Phillies have been doing that for the last 3 years in division races and big playoff games…but we’ve never done it against a team as deep as NY. If the same Pedro shows up as the same guy that pitched Game 2, I like our chances. He only gave up 3 runs, 2 on 2 swings of the bat. Tonight will be a battle and if we can take this one, I am looking forward to a great game 7. Thanks yanks for an already exciting series, but this needs to go 7!

Go Phils.

that's class...

Just like your pic of Michael Jack.

You guys have a hell of a team- but I am hoping things close out tonight- I think I may have a massive coronary if this thing goes 7.

2004

As dumb as it is to compare this team to the 2004 Yankees, we’re still going to be seen as the team that can’t win the big one until we actually win it and end that reputation. Let’s do it tonight!
