An Angel fan's lament

I was ready for next season.

I couldn't wait to see how we upgraded our bullpen, and our lineup.

I was ready to argue that our fanbase does have true fans, but that it was tough after years of the Dodgers overshadowing us - almost as badly as the Lakers have overshadowed the clippers.

I was ready to show Yankee fans that the Angels were hoping to be their main rival over the next few decades and that I hoped the rivalry would be classy - purely baseball, with respect between organizations.

And then I woke to this:

Rev Halofan is obviously an immature petty douchebag

so any site that he runs is going to be a reflection of that (not that this article was all that awful IMO).

I’d like to think that here we realize that that is a reflection on Rev, and not on the Angels fan base as a whole, and definitely not on you.

It seems like you’d be better off on a different Angels blog where they occasionally talked about….you know….baseball.

This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

I'm just waiting...

to post this on Rev Halo’s ass when the time is right this winter. Maybe after he gets all excited about a Gary Mathews Jr. trade for Milton Bradley.

A MSG TO REV HALO:

Why is that you constantly whine for respect instead of earning it? You have a league-wide reputation for complaining about everything: umpires, payroll, weather, announcers, the media, stadiums – without noticing the one thing that really matters… that in the baseball game that was just played on the field the other team kicked your Angel’s ass.

If you want some respect then you should handle the truth, which, if you think about it, is actually pretty good. You are a pretty good ball club with a pretty good manager in a pretty good organization. But instead of just appreciating that, you shout to the heavens (and to the rest of us) that you are something you are not – which are Champions.

We finally figured out why you hate A-Rod so much. It isn’t because he kills you at the plate. It’s because deep down you fear you are just like him (or like he used to be.)

And it all boils down to how you think…

Like you think "dominating a team" means playing them 100 games over 15 years and losing 43 times – while they go on to win four World Championships (soon to be five).

Like playing National League baseball is good enough to win in the American League.

Like your team is meaningful to the fabric of the game — when everyone knows you have won fewer titles than… the Florida Marlins.

Like your ownership is great because it acts like your best friend, sits right next to you, lowers your beer prices and puts a pretty good team on the field. Here’s a hint — that’s not a great owner. That’s a pretty good owner. We have a great owner here in the Bronx. We seldom see him and he doubled our beer prices – but then he mixes our money with his own and goes out and wins Championships. THAT’s what we care about.

And BTW…

Our team just beat your team because we’re better than you. The umpires had NOTHING to do with it. Suck it up pussies..

And our first baseman has been terrible at the plate, yet he’s winning more games with his glove than yours did with his bat. Stop trying to compare the two.

You seriously believe Derek Jeter sucks and Mariano throws a spitball. You s-e-r-i-o-u-s-l-y think that (and then you wonder why baseball laughs at you.)

Want to know what really sucks? Your whiney "Mommy its not fair" attitude.

That – and your stadium. From its plastic rocks to its plastic trees it’s the perfect compliment to your Disney neighborhood. Don’t you realize that when you complain about our beautiful new Stadium being a band-box, but then your little league line-up of Mini-Mi’s can’t lift a ball over our walls, it is exactly what we mean by whining? Do yourselves a favor and stop moaning about stadiums. Remember — the whole league knows your current home was once the former home of the St. Louis Rams. Nothing more need be said.

The league-wide hope is that from here on out you Halo fans realize you have a pretty good team in a pretty good market with pretty good ownership — and that you finally stop with the attitude that implies you are a far greater team than what a simple look at the past, present and future of Angels baseball ultimately and always will reveal…

You are not Champions — just pretty good. Try to live up to that at least. Your team deserves it.

Allow me to retort

My point in showing this post was the inane, childish tone that is set on our fansite. The attempts at humor are sophomoric at best. It seemed like a guy who thought of a great put-down a day after the fact.

The playoff assertions of cheating by Mo and conspiracies were too much for me. We did sound like spoiled kids who didn’t get their way.

The Rev is capable of good, solid writing. He’s been interviewed via radio locally, and has a lot more baseball knowledge than he is showing lately. He is better than this and it makes us look bad.

Over time as the hurt heals, we’ll come to terms with this postseason.

You beat us. Bottom line.

That said:

Angel fans respect the Yankees because they do things the right way. They act like they’ve been there before. Aside from the Centaur, this was a likable team led by a likable coach.

Your fans carry themselves with dignity unseen by Red Sox nation.

We know we’ve got 26 titles to go before we catch you. We know we don’t have a storied history.

Yet we’ve drawn 3 million people a year since 02. We’ve won divisional titles regularly since 02. In other words, we are creating history. We are establishing a franchise that expects to win.

In short, we are trying to be more like you, and yet you insult us by saying the Rams played at our stadium? You bring up Florida? You insult Artie for DROPPING beer prices. Please.

To pull the WE ARE CHAMPIONS and YOU ARE NOT isn’t the sign of a champion.
It’s like a Laker fan talking crap on the Knick board. It’s like USC popping off to Cal.
I also expect better from you Rosebud.

It sucks that the main guy on my favorite team’s site can’t handle any criticism. Now his minion or mults come and waste time here.

None of the other SBN sites seem to have this issue.

I was banned by Halofan ....

because I had one post where I was critical of Bobby Abreu. Apparently ….. Rev Halofan doesn’t want to allow any criticism of anything to do with the Angels. My comments were based on my experience watching Abreu in pinstripes. He puts up good numbers but …… bottom line is that he is a defensive liability, not a clutch player and someone who seems to be more out for his own numbers than for the team. That is all I said and ….. the cowardly Rev Halofan banned me from the site.

I was too, and lightning quick I might add...

I am 50 years old and have been actively on the Internet for nearly 20 years and I have never, ever been banned anywhere else, ever. Now the exchange I made with them was in fun and yeah it was pointing out my team’s sucesses versus their failures and close calls, but that is what baseball is all about isn’t it? But the folks over there are so consumed in their hatred of anything (and anyone) that is the Yankees that it is simply laughable. I mean, I could understand that sort of attitude against the Dodgers and their fans who truly do dominate the Los Angeles area (I lived there for 7 years and watched MANY Angel’s games at the Big A back in the 80s) but we only play the Angels a handful of times in any given year and are separated by an entire country!

I would say that Rev Halofan has a serious case of paranoia and because he blogs for the Angels, he feels compelled to exert absolute authority at any time even if it isn’t warranted. Lee Stevens Potential’s comments were FAR more critical of the would be King and his dodgy realm than anything I said, and I am surprised he didn’t get himself banned. Kudos to him though as he tries to actually talk about baseball in a civilized adult manner in that paranoid world.

cuz the stuff they post about the Red Sox is actually 20x worse, probably cuz before this year the Red Sox have beaten the crap out of them in the playoffs.

Which now that the Yanks have done just that…expect worse in the future.
