Well...

…I don’t want to say anything controversial cuz it happened so fast. It looked more like he spit and his hand just happened to be the landing spot and he rubbed things together. Anyway I look at it, it’s kinda nasty looking, and I really mean nasty. :P

I love CC

whipping his head around to see the ump’s reaction!

he’s like: ‘did you f’in see that?!’

CC

Why would he throw a spitball to a pitcher, anyway? If he were cheating, he might want to pick his spots better.

That may have been Chan's weekly shower.

I just think the guy isnt very sanitary

I feel like stuff like this is like making excuses. If Chan Ho Park was a cheat, they would pitch him more. I dont think there is anything that needs to be investigated.

Rosin bag?

Looks like he picks up a rosin bag. I would love to see if maybe he is off the mound and pointing at short or second. Either way he does spit in his hand – but is he on the mound or not?

No worries in my mind – I don’t want to be like all of the other fans and complain…let them do it, and lets keep our dignity and be good fans.

Rosin bag.

Looks like he spit into his hand and then rubbed the rosin bag, not the ball. Not sure if this makes a difference.

WOW...

I dunno what to say.

First, we’d be called Halo Heaven part 2 if we call foul.

Yet, unlike Mariano’s…that’s pretty obvious right there (and LOL at CC’s WTF is that reaction…).

That is definitely the rosin bag tho, not the baseball.

I’m not 100% on the spitter rule, but I’m pretty sure your not allowed to spit on your hand which I don’t know how that’s not obvious.

DO WHAT JERRY HAIRSTON DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wasn't the rosin bag

I happened to have the recording of Sunday night’s game still on my dvr and I rewatched it a few times. I’m not saying he did it on purpose, but the white object in park’s hand is definitely the ball. Its tough to tell because of the zoom factor in the clip but when viewed at normal dimensions you can clearly see him grind the spit into the ball. The pitch in question was a 90 mph slider with typical slider movement. I assume he had realized his mistake and wiped the ball clean by that point. In the clip it also looks like CC whips his head around to look at the ump, but if you watch past when the clip cuts off, he looked back to see if the umpire was in position and then looked around casually as he waited for Park to get set.

yeah

it’s definitely the ball.

and i do think he rubbed it with spit, but did he throw an actual spitball? no, imo, which according to the expert has to be so loaded with spit that it’s squeezed out of the hand rather than spun off the fingers.

As to Park's position on the mound

He is standing behind the rubber facing home plate. Immediately after he grinds the ball in his hands he looks to the umpire and seems to blow on his hands in a gesture to make sure that the umpires are allowing the pitchers to blow on their hands. Obviously he didn’t do it on purpose if he’s facing home plate. Just before the spit in question he seems to be coughing, so my theory is that he coughed something up then tried to blow on his hands which caused whatever dislodged from the cough to become lodged in his hand. Pretty gross, but not cheating.

Thanks for the insight. Great detective work.

Good Lord, which site am I reading?

It’s ridiculous that we even think this is an issue. Most likely, it’s some Angels fan trying to get back at us.

-No one uses actual spit to throw a spitball.
-Certainly no one doctors the ball that obviously in front of the umpire, the batter, 50,000 fans and a national audience.
-He’s most likely going to the rosin bag.
-My understanding is you can wipe your brow or spit on your hands, but you have to wipe them off on your uniform or the rosin bag before you touch the ball.
-No one throws a spit ball to the opposing team’s pitcher.

If Anybody Suffered From This "SpitBall"..

it wasnt a Yankee, it was a Phillie. Poor Ruiz had to handle that nasty baseball with the spit all over it.

The site got a little touch up overnight. Most of it is behind the scenes stuff that will make the comments run more smoothly during threads while people are commenting. The Fanshots have been moved up, so hopefully they’ll receive more attention.
