Pettitte is 3-1 with a 2.80 ERA in five career postseason starts on short rest. You know what game is included in that? The one everyone knows as the greatest of his career: Game 5 of the 1996 World Series (8 1/3 shutout innings against Atlanta). Game 2 of the ‘03 World Series is in there, too (8 2/3, one unearned run vs. Florida).
Andy hasn't pitched a game on short rest since 2006 (with Houston), and his last with the Yanks was Game 2 of the '03 Series.
He was great in each, but hasn't done it in more than three years.

there is
Something very sentimental for me seeing Andy versus Pedro in Yankees stadium. This just feels like a story book ending. I feel very confident with Andy on short rest. I think he will pitch enough to keep us in it.

Pettite may struggle on short rest.
His best days are behind him. Just the same for the Phillies, you can’t expect much from Pedro. However Pedro has full rest.

I agree but
I worry a lot about Andy on short rest. I’m not going to second guess now. I just hope it works out. If it does it will be absolutely poetic. Nothing makes me happier than a great outing from Andy and Pedro getting pummeled.

I hope someone sprinkles some laxative powder on Pedro's plantain breakfast tomorrow morning. Not that we'll need it.

Andy is a gamer. I think he can get outs even when he doesn’t have much. That’s why I like him in this situation. Obviously in retrospect the move didn’t work out but I don’t think you can second guess.

I don't
think Andy needs to pitch his best game to win. He just has to keep the offense ahead.
Pedro pitched well in game 2, but the offense wasn’t rolling. It is now and the Philly pen can’t contain it.
Andy and the rest of the guys will bring it home.

Well
they have a second chance to really get to bomb Pedro. I wanted them to do it in Game 2, but they didn’t. If Pedro really gets hit like we all want him too, then we probably won’t have to worry about Andy.
I’m confident with him on 3 days rest. He’s a big game pitcher. THESE games are the reason he was brought back for. He can do it. I watched him do it when I was 9 years old in the ‘96 series, listening to my dad about how amazing Smoltz was, and how surprised he was (although I didn’t know why back then) that Pettitte outdueled him. That was on three days rest. I know he’s older now, but he’s the same guy and I think he can still do it.
Could be the last game of his career. I hope he goes out there and gives his best effort to get the Yankees a championship! He sure deserves one last one.

I am a bit older than you and went through the entire 80’s when a big game pitcher didn’t seem to exist. I will never forget what Andy did in game 5 of the world series that year, helping end a drought that was the longest in Yankee history (at least since they first won in 1923), 18 years.

Game 5 1996
Pettitte was not on 3 days rest for game 5 in 1996. He pitched game 1 and game 5 which is 4 days rest. 4 days rest is not short rest so if this stat is counting it as that, it’s kind of misleading.

also misleading.....
1996 was 13 years ago…..
Yet, the same : Andy will be fine.

no, it was on 3 days of rest
check BRef: Game 1 was on Oct. 20, Game 5 was Oct. 24, meaning 3 days in between.
