How is Andy When Joe West Is Behind The Plate?

I know West was behind the plate in that 20-11 victory over the Sox but I dont know what his other starts with West behind the plate look like.

And

after he threw over 100 pitches? Yeah, I’m worried too.

Of course, what’s the other option? Gaudin who has thrown only 13 pitches the last month? It appears the bed is already made.

If the rest of this series is any indication...

…then history should be no indicator at all. Cliff Lee dusts us in Game 1 (and his last 4 starts), we get 5 runs in 7IP tonight. AJ Burnett deals in Game 2 and is 3-0 on 3 days rest, gets rocked in 2IP tonight.

History is exactly that: history. This is why they play the games. Personally, I think this is the game you want Andy pitching. Would it be nice to have him on full rest? Yes, it would be, but he’s still the most experienced postseason pitcher we have. He is still the posterboy for consistency and the ideal model for an unshakable starter.

We got here and we’re more than capable of finishing. Our bats are heating up, we have the town’s biggest rival on the bump, and it’s in our backyard. This is a must-win and I think everyone in stripes recognizes that.

Should be a good one!

nobody said it was going to be easy

im glad to have big game andy going for us, hes got this in him and the short rest shouldnt bother him as he must realize it could be the last start of his carreer if he wins, what a moment that will be!

if there is game 7.....

who do the phils have to start? hamels? yes please, just sayin yanks in 6!!!

by On The Yanks of the Rivera on Nov 3, 2009 1:03 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Probably Hamels

But Happ and Lee would both be available for at least 2 innings.

by GMan83201 on Nov 3, 2009 11:05 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Game 7

Hamels was scheduled to start. I am not worried with Andy on the mound. Who else has been here before? I mean the stars shine when they need to. We are 27 outs away from number 27, so why stress. Everyone knew Lee was gonna be stout last night so lets go home rest a day and whoop up on the Phils tomorrow. Stop worrying and pulling stats out of nowhere. Im 95.7% sure that if the wind is blowing from the south under 7mph that Andy will get the win, but I am only 90.5% sure he will win after 3 days after it rained less than an inch.

Pettite shouldn't start the next game

Your manager is making a huge mistake starting all his pitchers on short rest. Too much of a desperate move for a good team.

I think CC is done, he has nothing left. It would be a bigger mistake to start him in game 7.

Smart move would be start Wang now and Pettite in game 7.

But rushing 3 starters on short rest is a bad move!!!

Petitte will lose, he got away with some garbage the last game, but after short rest, he will struggle.

Bleed green, or don't bleed at all!

Your wrong on so many parts

plua all the yankss have to do is stop pitching to utley, he pretty much the offense right now.

by lololol on Nov 3, 2009 10:25 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

How long do you expect that Howard slup to last? and Werth is hot as well.

You give you team the best chance to win by putting a fully rested pitcher in. All the pitchers are done, imagine those with out full rest. Risky move.

On the Howard question You could ask the same about Tex and Cano

What if those two start hitting? Will Howard or pitching guys on three days rest even matter?

by YankeesJets on Nov 3, 2009 4:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This is a Joke, Right?

I mean it can’t be serious – Wang is not on the WS roster, dude.

CC is done? I think CC is someone the Phillies (OK, other than Utley) have no interest in facing again. He has already pitched well in two games, running into Lee’s best game in Game 1 and having the bullpen blow a lead in Game 4.

The Yankees don’t need a dominant complete game out of Pettite. Six innings, 90 pitches, and a tattooing of Pedro. The key parts of the bullpen (Joba, Marte and Mo) are rested and will be primed to go. I like the Yankees chances in both Game 6 and (if necessary) Game 7.

I don't know who you do and don't have. I don't follow the Yankees.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t disagree with the decision. You shouldn’t pitcher any pitcher on 3 days, rather less an older one. Do you think we would pitcher Pedro on short rest? Heck no, thats stupid. Any pitcher is better and Andy at this point, you don’t know what he has left in his arm. Also, CC looked cooked at the end of that game. Not that he’s bad, only that he is fatigued, not a good idea to run him 2X on short rest. Why not give your team the best chance to win, you should have pitched someone else yesterday, you still would had Pettite and CC on full rest!

I disagree with the facts but agree with the sentiment.

CC hasn’t been particularly sharp and he looked fatigued in his last outing (fastball was around 92 a lot of the time instead of 94-95).

Have to start Pettitte in this game though. I do think he will struggle and I don’t think Andy on short rest can be favored against Pedro on regular rest.

I yes, I agree and have said from the start that only using 3 starters was a bad idea. Chad Gaudin coulda done better than 6 runs in 2 IP and Andy on short rest terrifies me.

If we hold on and win the series it will be because we survived this terrible decision, not because it was the right call.

by GMan83201 on Nov 3, 2009 11:10 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

well philly bro....

why is it a desperate move?

This was the plan throughout the season as soon as the Yanks realized THEY ONLY HAVE 3 starters.

Gaudin could have outpiched AJ…yet, that means AJ for game 6. That’s a lot worse than Andy on 3 days.

Also….hard to follow anything you said after suggest CM Wang….he’s hurt.

Andy is a lot like his foe, Pedro. Pitches with a lot of smarts and BALLS. Also…Pedro got away with a lot too. Cliff Lee did in game 1 and was a lot more human. Expect Pedro to come back to earth too.

Basically its an even pitching matchup. Both probably aren’t going 9 innings, so since its at home, this favors the Yanks.

I don't know your roster, I'm a Phillies fan, not a Yankees fan,

But I don’t think starting a pitcher on short rest who is older against the Phillies is a good idea. It may comeback to bite you.

We pitched Blanton, you think we wanted to, Nooo. But we know how fatigued the pitchers are at this point. That extra day is huge.

Bleed green, or don't bleed at all!

by yophillybro on Nov 3, 2009 4:17 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

of course it may.

As could have starting Gaudin in game 5…

The worst idea would have been to start Gaudin in game 5 and AJ in game 6. AJ at this point is very unpredictable. Maybe he throws another gem at home? I dunno. But who knows, he’s fully capable of doing the same in game 6…then its a disaster.

Andy Pettite, on 3 days…is better than AJ on full days rest right now.

Andy is the least of my worries right now.

2 out of 3

How quick do we forget that we won 2 out of 3 games in Philly. We did everything that you could hvae expected from this team. I am tired of nay sayers and Gardy haters! We are 1 game away from winning the world series, not fighting to make the playoffs. Should we just start Mo and let him pitch all 9 innings? Come on people!

andy just checked with his arm....

his arm told him that he has won 17 post season games using him and that he(the arm) feels ok and wants to throw game 6….. also philly fan: you started blanton because you didnt want lee to face sabathia twice, you traded game 4 for game 5 and it worked out for you but now you have to face the most dominate post season pitcher ever and sweep the yankees in yankee stadium….good luck philly fan i cant say your not determined but you know if we get a lead you have until the end of the 7th to make a move or else that trophy doesnt leave the bronx

by On The Yanks of the Rivera on Nov 3, 2009 8:02 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I am among Andy's biggest fans but most dominant post season pitcher ever?

Not even in the top 10. You got guys like Beckett, Gibson, Koufax just to name a few.

I'll take the term most consistant pitcher better...

To me it means alot more….chances of trying to find a consistant pitcher these days are 1 and a milllion….And we have THE MOST CONSISTANT of them all…on the mound……Wed….
