The 40 man and Roy Halladay

There is a jam in the Yankees 40 man roster.

There may be an opportunity to trade for Roy Halladay.

Talk has centered around one of the young stud pitchers and a prospect.  this type of deal starts to make more sense for the Yankees if the prospect to add to Joba or Phil is on the 40 man.

Do you think players like Juan Miranda or Ramiro Pena could have a place in this kind of deal?  I think it is time to deal Miranda.  He is starting to look ML ready with potential to be a very good hitter.  But, the Yanks are committed to  Tex so Miranda will not play first here in the foreseeable future.

It seems to me this kind of a deal makes sense for the Yankees and beats the pants off the packages being rumored for the Halladay to Boston deal.

We particularly are carrying a glut of infielders and pitcher prospects who are farther from the bigs.  I would even include Brett Gardener, or any of Wilkin De La Rosa,  Michael Dunn etc etc.

I am usually a guy who would rather sign a free agent rather than trade and extend.  I feel like I'd like to see the Yankees pull the trigger on Halladay.  I've also decided if I have to trade Joba or Phil I'd rather trade Joba.  I like the heck out of Phils calm professional approach.  There is something a little out of control about Joba.

What do you think?

I think they should hang on to the prospects

and leave Halladay alone. They don’t need him. They will compete without him. And they will have a chance to have a 28th World Championship next year without him. So why trade away the farm system for him? He’s a hell of a pitcher, but I don’t like the idea of losing Montero and Jackson (both potential All-Stars), along with Joba/Hughes and maybe some more prospects, AND another 20 million a year to get this guy. It’s too much for a guy we don’t need. Let some other team blow away their farm system to get him.

if...

if we can get him for just Joba or Hughes, and another prospect not named Montero or Jackson, then it should definitely be done. I kinda doubt the Jays would take that, though.

lol

well, stupid deals have been done in the past. If the Yankees can somehow pull that off, then I will never insult Brian Cashman again. He’s gonna need some pretty good negotiating techniques though.

they might not get much better...

the Red Sox are apparently offering Buckholtz and an A level player who was rated a B prospect, from what I heard. Joba or Hughes and someone like Romine is better than that deal by itself. The Jays have to move him, and I think teams know they are desperate to get something for him, so the market will probably be low unless the Red Sox and Yankees start out-bidding each other and drive the price high.

Probably Won't Happen...

Unless the Jays forget about Jesus Montero because I heard they want him and either Joba or Hughes. They Yankees won’t trade Montero.

New wrinkle in the Halladay Sweepstakes..

Buster Olney of ESPN: “Roy Halladay, the All-Star pitcher who has been the subject of much trade talk since before the July deadline, will not approve any proposed deal after he reports to spring training, according to his representatives.”

That is encouraging news!

that puts more pressure on the Jays

and should drive his price down more, since teams will know the Jays are desperate
