Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

The Red Sox are "putting on a full-court press" to acquire Roy Halladay, according to a source, and are hoping to add the former Cy Young winner to the top of their rotation to go with Josh Beckett and Jon Lester.

"They would love to get it wrapped up before the winter meetings (beginning Dec. 7)," the source said.

It naturally means the Yankees will get involved, if only to drive up the price. But frankly, I'd rather keep all the prospects and sign John Lackey, then sign Roy Halladay next off-season.

Let them have him

I don’t want the Yankees to get him if it means giving up Montero and Jackson. Particularly Montero. And since it seems impossible that the Yankees have a shot at Halladay without giving up, not one, but BOTH of those guys, plus Hughes/Joba. They may have to throw in a few lesser prospects as well. I think it’s giving up too much. The Yankees don’t need him.

If the Red Sox need him so bad, then let them have him. He’ll make them better, sure. But Halladay is 33 years old. He’s not going to stay this great forever. Eventually, he’ll decline. And at that point, the Red Sox will be paying 20 million a year for a declining player. Plus, they will have given up a lot of their system.

I think it’s better for the Yankees in the long run if they stay away from Halladay. Go after Harden/Sheets if you want a pitcher. If they stay healthy, one of those guys would be a formidable, cheap middle of the rotation guy. The Yankees also will get Wang back half way through, and if he returns to form, thats another cheap ace added to the rotation. If they truly want another big pitcher, then sign Lackey.

There is pitching available on the market, and the Yankees already have a surplus of pitching in their system already. They do not need Halladay. He would cost a ton of money, and a ton of prospects. The Yankees have said that they want to cut payroll. Paying Halladay 20 million a year won’t do that. If the Red Sox want to throw away their farm system for him, then let them do it. I just hope the Yankees don’t.

I believe it when there's proof

that Theo Epstein spent Thanksgiving with the Halladay’s this year.

If the Red Sox aces keep pitching like 5th starters for pawtucket, who cares?
