Should the Yankees pursue P Erik Bedard?? And DeRosa?
What do you think?
Should the Yankees consider Erik Bedard as their 3rd or 4th pitcher?
- Maybe. Although the injuries this year you know what Bedard can do. He is 51-41 throughout his career with a 3.70 era. Not bad for a 3rd or 4th starter. Last year he was 5-3 with a 2.82 era in 15 games. If he can rebound off his injury and can start for 3/4 of the season or more the yanks should consider or look at him. You know what he did with Baltimore but at 30 he can probably still do it well. He'll put up 15 wins if healthy, can go 7 innings, won't command a ton of money due to injury. Look for a 2 year 15 to 20 million contract if he does sign.
Should the Yankees pursue Mark DeRosa?
- Yes. He can fill any hole in the infield and outfield. If the Yankees sign Damon he can sit out 30 games and DeRosa can step in. DHing A-Rod, DeRosa steps in, Tex too. But other teams will be interested in their starting role. Like the Phillies at 3rd. Feliz is gone. Mark loves New York and would love to come here. He puts up good numbers too. He had a 250 avg, 23 jacks, and 78 RBI's. Makes sense for the yankees to consider purchasing Mark DeRosa.

i'd take bedard. and who said this starting pitcher market was bad.
yes it lacks the aces of next year. but, it has depth. it has lackey, sheets, bedard, harden, duscherer, garland, wolf, pettite, and more. yankees need to get one of these plus pettite and its good
o, and i ABSOLUTELY LOVE DeRosa
he plays everywhere gold glove caliber, 25 HR and 90 RBI guy(maybe even bump that up in our park), and great in the clubhouse.
wait...
25 and 90RBI + a bump? What about the bump you already gave him?

I'd be OK with Derosa.
thom he’s more like a mixture of Cano’s impatience and Swisher’s swing and Miss ability.
…..if he’s starting it wouldn’t be the end of the world cuz he’d be cheap ( I think…)
He’d also be a good backup when we get a real LF.

I like DeRosa, but I see him signing with a club that gives him a starting job, not just the backup
However, with all the older Yankees infielders, he would get some good play time
I would rather pursue Sheets or Duschscherer than Bedard.
However, if we get another pitcher, that means 1 of 3 things:
A. Pettite is not coming back
B. either Joba or Hughes in bullpen, unless we trade one of them
C. The pitcher we sign is okay with being a a long reliever and we start both Hughes and Joba instead (doubtful)

DeRosa will be starting with the Yankees if he comes
one day he’ll be catching, the next he’ll be at short, then at third, then in left, then in center, then in right, then at first, then at second…….. Normally he could take the DH spot (or maybe LF if he’s better than Damon) in the A lineup while the rest play the field, but he could play anywhere, give guys rest all the time, and play everyday. Personally, I think DeRosa would be a great add to this team.
Bedard/De Rosa
Ok first off…Erik Bedard. He’s a super-talented lefty who needs to get over his injury problems…normally it would seem like a good risk. But from all accounts this is an absolutely miserable human being who couldn’t stand the “intense” media pressure of Seattle. New York would be a disaster for him. He needs to go to a either a small market or a big city like LA or Dallas where baseball isn’t the first thing on their minds.
Mark DeRosa…while he’d be a nice addition, I don’t think he’s good enough to start 140-150 games for us, whether it’s at LF or DH and I don’t think he’d sign as a utility man. There are plenty of teams where he could start at 2nd or 3rd.
One possibility, when it comes to pitching might be to sign a starter who’s willing to start out as the setup man and then possibly move to the rotation if Hughes or Joba falter. Justin Ducscherer or Kelvim Escobar might fit this bill since they both have bullpen experience. Brett Myers also although I don’t think he’s particularly good.

no.... but I thought...
He did superbly in Seattle, when he was healthy, it was Detroit that was a disaster. (Apparently that was due to some undisclosed injury), but take it with a grain of salt. It was 1 year deal, and it was a contract year.

You must be talking...
…about that other lefthander Jarrod Washburn, not Bédard.

No bedard, he's a headcase and doesn't want to play in a big city.
I’d take Derosa as a supersub. CHances are somebody will offer him a fulltime job though.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
Mark Derosa
Derosa is too old at 34. Give Ramiro Pena a full shot with the club. He can fill in at 2nd, 3rd, and SS. His bat was a pleasant surprise. He has good speed, good glove, and a strong arm. For now I see him as Jeter’s replacement at SS, when that DREADFUL :-( day comes.
Rick Ankiel!
Why aren’t fans jumping up for Ankiel? He would cost less than DeRosa, has a cannon for an arm and could pop 20 – 25 hrs in the Stadium.
maybe cuz he sucks balls.

If he can't hit against the NL Central.... (without facing the 2 NL Cy-Young runner ups)
what chance does he have in the AL?
