Not good. He was having a solid postseason. Looks like it'll be GGBG tonight, and possibly for the rest of the Series.
Update: Ramiro Pena will replace Melky on the World Series roster.

he was playing pretty well
I’m confident that Gardner will play solid…

prediction: GGBG is the player of the game

At least 2-3 with a SB and a run, plus he tracks down everything hit to center. (Disclosure: my predictions are almost never right.)

then you should predict

Lee pitches a CG SHO and AJ gets bombed.

done

I’m also predicting that I DON’T win the lottery and that I DON’T hook up with any two of the women whose photos are regularly posted during game threads. I’ll let you know how it goes.

That blows

Melky was doing alright at the plate and in the field. Never good when you lose a starter.

Hopefully GGBG can get on base and we can be aggressive with him on the basepaths.

damn...

well, looks like GGBG will have to play.

Maybe him and Swisher will be on the same page with those Right center fly balls?

Can’t be worse than Bubba and Shef.

Great opportunity ...

Baseball history is littered with players who were tapped to fill in and produced mightily. I’d like to think that’s going to happen tonight.

GGBG is

2 for 6 PA, so we get a slight defensive upgrade and maybe flat in the offense department? Melky was only batting .154 in the WS though he did well against the Angels (.391) . I like Melky’s experience though.

It worries me that Gardner has had so few PAs, and that he’s facing a lefty. Normally I’d say this was a push, but Garder’s lack of playing time might be a downgrade. On the other hand, the unexpected (like two stolen bases by the same guy on one pitch) often happens during the WS, so who knows.

GGBG can bunt for a hit or wait on one and slap it through the left side. Also, Lee is less likely to show Gardner the change up.

this could be to the Yanks advantage.

If Lee is really on his game…

say in the late innings you bunt with Gardy and he beats one out, then you got hopefully Matsui and Posada to PH and bring him in.

Hypothetical and also something I could also see Melky doing…but GGBG can get on with that bunt better than anyone on the team.

Agreed

With the potential that Lee can bring to the mound tonight, anything that can be tweaked to give the Yanks an advantage should be considered… you can bet Girardi is mulling over multiple strategies….

I hope he can still play. That really sucks.

I am confident that GGBG will do okay.

WOW.

Does not having Melky deplete the lineup that much? Cuz according to ESPN…it does.
