In Cash We Trust
Somehow, Brian Cashman at times operates below the radar. At the very least, he seems to operate despite the radar.
He bided his time and swooped in on Tex. He brought in Swisher before any rumors hit the mill.
In many ways I've come to expect him to surprise me. So I watch other teams' rumors almost as closely as I watch Yankee rumors.
Here's some of what peculating on the Hot Stove tonight that could effect the Yankees plans:
Nationals outfielder Josh Willingham is attracting interest from the Braves.
The Angels offered Lackey over $70M, but he turned it down.
The Mets are looking at Chone Figgins for 2B or LF.

Interesting
that the Mets may want Figgins for 2B or (gasp!) LF. Luis Castillo has two years remaining at $6M. He has a career .292 BA and .369 OBP. Where are they going to put Castillo? The Mets need to address their pitching issues first and foremost.

The Mets are going to need a LOT more than Chone Figgins if they want to compete
Also, interesting to see Lackey turn down an offer for 70 million. Although thats less than Burnett makes, so if he accepted that I would have been surprised. How high should the Yanks be willing to go to sign Lackey?

Lackey
Teams may be playing it close to the vest right now but I’d be shocked if someone doesn’t offer Lackey 5 years and 90-100 mil.

The Yankees tend to overpay. If the Yankees don't sign him
for AJ money then he will accept less somewhere else.
