Yankees- Curtis Granderson and Vladimir Guerrero ?

What's your opionion?

Star-divide

With the Yankees supposingly being interested in Curtis Granderson should they try to trade for him? Also, with Vladimir Guerrero being a Free Agent and Matsui's contract up shall the Yankees be interested?

First on Granderson, I think the Yankees should trade for Curtis and move Melky to either Right or Left field depending on Damon. Granderson has great speed, plays the outfield fantastic, has some pop, steals bases, and is an AL All Star. What the Tigers want I don't know. But if Cash or the Tigers can make the deal right I think it will go through. Should the Yankees trade for Curtis Granderson? My answer YES.

Now on Vladimir Guerrero, With Matsui's contract up it opens a spot up for a DH or maybe an OF. Yes it takes the DH spot away but Vlad brings power to the lineup adding Tex and A-Rod. He can run the bases still unlike Hideki. Or the Yanks can go for Matt Holliday. Which probably won't happen. So if Vlad's agent doesn't demand a lot of money (remember were the Yankees) the Yanks can maybe play ball. But I think only one player wil end up here either Granderson or another player. My answer is they should bring in Granderson.

So what do you think? Should the Yankees trade for Curtis Granderson or sign a FA OF like Vlad Guerrero? My opionion bring in Granderson. What do you think?

Well....

Granderson- I’d get him for the right price. Do NOT give up Montero or Jackson. Keep them. Hone them. They are two big parts of the Yankees future. But if they find some way to get Granderson without giving up the big farm, then jump on it.

Vlad- NOOOOO!!!!! He can barely play the OF anymore and is probably just a DH like Matsui. NO discipline. NO speed. If we’re going to bring in a DH, then it will be Matsui. Nobody else.

I would not trade a left handed DH with bad knees for a right handed DH with bad knees.
No to Guerrero.

And the more I think about Granderson’s ugly platoon splits, the more sure I am that the Yankees shouldn’t give up more for him than they gave up for Swisher. Here’s hoping that Dave Dombrowski is as dumb as Kenny Williams.

Damn another Granderson thread?

Well, absolutely not the Guererro. Just no..flat out no way.

I’d love to get Granderson, he’s a lot better than who we got at CF right now.

I really doubt the Tigers are trading him tho.

Basically, Granderson is Nick Swisher, except trade Swisher’s OBP for Granderson’s speed/excellent defense (tho he looked pretty bad at times last year…or maybe he is Swisher in the OF…not really a bad thing).

Like jscape said, if its possible that Cash can pull off a Swisher type deal for him, then no problem.

As long as the big 4 aren’t involved, and maybe even include McCallister as a 4 1/2…

…they are not gonna get him. The Tigers are gonna want Hughes or Joba…so its really moot.

NO Vlad

Kevin Long’s nightmare personified. He doesn’t have a whole lot left in the tank either.

I told you we would beat Georgia!! Now, as for those 9 wins in '09......

Vlad

Vlad’s always been one of my favorite players, It was weird last year when my 3 favorite non-Yankees, Tex, Vlad and Torii Hunter, all wound up on the Angels who I can’t stand. Anyway the time to sign Vlad was 6 years ago when Cashman had a deal with him and George Steinbrenner squashed it in order to sign Gary Sheffield because he was Dwight Gooden’s nephew (ugh). I’d take him on a 1 year deal but I think he’ll probably want more than that. It’s probably a moot point because Vlad loves playing with the Angels and they’ll probably bring him back.

Leave center field ALONE...

Granderson’s inability to hit lefties is a major liability, but he will STILL be way overpriced. Platooning Melky and Gardner worked well for us this year and they feed off of each other. Melky has a good arm and Gardner has good range.

I know the Yankees are accustomed to having a power hitting centerfielder, but times…well, they are a-changing. You can’t have an all-star at every position. All I’m suggesting is that our power positions have changed. We have a power hitting third baseman (might I add he is arguably the BEST current major leaguer), a power hitting first baseman (which is normal), a power-hitting catcher, need I continue? Oh yeah, and that guy at short, what’s his name, you know, the one who just had his best season?

So I ask…what’s the big deal if we are sacrificing some power in the outfield and getting better than average defense?

by jlaporta on Nov 14, 2009 12:58 PM EST reply actions

the thing is...

Granderson is as good or better than Melkett Cabrener on defense.

Can he not hit lefties for his life? Yup. But can he hit righties 3x better than Melky or Brett? Yup.

And no one said they gotta trade Melky for Granderson did they (tho more than likely he’s part of the deal….).

If they keep Melky, well then you can bat Melk against LHer’s…..

No on Granderson..

Why give up the prospects (he’s the equivalent of Jeter as to what he means to the Tigers) and he can’t hit lefties. 23 triples in 2007 is great but he can’t make adjustments.

Detroit's ballpark is a triples haven

which helps out a player like Granderson. As everyone and their mother has already said, the guy can’t hit lefties, and the asking price will most likely be too high.

I will summon my inner FreeBradshaw and give this a PASS.

Even if Granderson is weak against lefties, his speed and defense makes up for lost runs. Plus, Yankee baseball goes beyond what’s on the ball field – Granderson is a media darling, with all the charity work he does and his genuine, charismatic nature, I think he’d be comfortable in the Bronx. That being said, I wouldn’t sacrifice a prospect such as AJAX for him, and I think that’s what the Tigers are going to want.

by ekwfan6 on Nov 16, 2009 1:53 AM EST reply actions

If we trade for Granderson

we are basically giving up on AJAX. Either he would be part of the trade, or he would be stuck in the minors behind Granderson, unless they plan on using Granderson in left. The only thing I think would work well is to platoon Granderson against RHP, and Gardner against LHP, but I wouldn’t want to give up any top prospects for a platoon player.

by Wraithpk on Nov 16, 2009 10:19 AM EST reply actions

Gardner against LHP?

he bats lefty too. You mean Melky against LHP?

by nyyrocks29 on Nov 16, 2009 5:44 PM EST up reply actions

Gardner...

actually hits better against LHP than he does against RHP. Granted his data sample is pretty small, but he hit .291 against LHP last year, and .264 against RHP.
