Just to Show How Bad Every Other NY Sports Team Is
From what it seems like, many more people are blogging about the Yanks in the offseason this year. You can contribute this to their World Series win. However, you must remember that this free agent year is not to sharp, so no major moves for the Yanks are expected to be made, which would normally counter that WS push. I have a different theory on why this is happening. All the other NY sports suck. Between the Knicks, Nets, Giants, Jets, Rangers and Islanders, New York winter sports are pretty awful. With so little else to be excited about, many New Yorkers (well maybe not Mets fans) are turning to baseball, in its offseason. Here is some stats on New York sports teams that play in the winter. The combined record for all the previously mentioned teams this year is 26-38. That's a not too stellar .406 winning percentage. In the past two seasons they are 182-224 (ouch). On the note of ownership, a Russian tycoon is taking over the Nets, the Islanders owner is trying to get them out of Long Island, and the Dolan family, the owners of the Knicks and Rangers who hired Isaah Thomas, are trying to sell Cablevision to focus just on their sports teams (not a good thing). Even New York talk radio is giving spots to the Yankees offseason moves normally devoted to football or hockey. So in conclusion, lets hope the Yanks bring home number 28 next year because it doesn't look like the Rangers or Islanders will bring home number 5, the Giants number 4, the Jets number 2, the Knicks number 3, or the Nets number 1.

Just adding
if the yanks did what the NY winter sports teams did in the last 2 years it would be like finishing the year 14 games under .500 (79-83). That was the White Sox record last year. They finished 3rd in the weak AL central
everyone sucks
I’m a Nets fan and at least I can take comfort in that the Nets will be in contention for John Wall next season. Knicks fan won’t even have that. Isaiah Thomas aka The Gift That Keeps On Giving, dealt the Knicks first round as part of the Marbury trade half a decade ago. I don’t know how Lebron goes with this mess of a team if he really wants a ring.
But you’re right. Add the ongoing Eli Manning disaster which is slowly killing me inside out (still a fan and have decided to go down in flames with him if need be), at this point, the only thing that excites me lately is the slight possibility of acquiring Doc Halladay.
Eli Manning disaster?
eh man…Eli’s one of the last things wrong with the Giants right now. Need to check who your rooting for on that one (heel’s healthy…Eli played good, not a coincidence).
The Jets suck, The Nets suck, The Islanders suck. Tho all 3 weren’t expected to do anything…all 3 have next year to look forward too.
The Nets could possible get a top draft pick in a strong draft, and one or possibly 2 big name FA in 2010.
The Giants can still turn it around, tho even if they back in the playoffs its all good. The Rangers will be fine too, they have a few key injuries that will be back in a few weeks.
No one’s the Yankees, but I’d rather have the feeling now than I did the past few years I thank you. Kinda tough for all the NY teams to do good at the same time.

It wasn't the best start
but the Giants looked okay recently and I’m very okay with still using the grace period residuals from the 08 title. Happiness all around and trying to ignore that Eli is running out of people to pass to. Playoffs or not, I’m okay with the Giants.
As for the Nets, I actually think they have a nice outside chance of landing Lebron. You got a new loaded owner who looks willing to break out the bank, what will look to be a top 3 pick (at least) going into next season and expiring contracts and cap space to go around. A much, much better situation than the Knicks.
And you’re right. Despite the suckiness, it is a good time to be a fan in NY. At its worst, at least it’s never boring.
I'm a die hard Knicks fan...
and I always just dismiss the Nets…kinda like the Devils.
But this draft class is extrememly strong. Not only John Wall, but Derek Favors, Willie Warren and more than a few others are potential stars. Deep class all around.
And not to mention who’s on the team with Brook Lopez and Devin Harris.
I hate to say it, buy I am envious of the situation the Nets are in.
Probably the only problem with them is they are the NJ Nets, and not in Brooklyn already.
If they were, you’d probably see Lebron and Wade buying property in NY already (or maybe if the Nets roster was the Knicks’)

Where's my Brooklyn Nets?
yeah I would have thought that they’d be the brooklyn nets by now. Maybe the new russian owner will change that.
when you think about it, this is probably the greatest offseason in Nets history. Even when they were winning eastern titles, it really was just a 3 man team who got the most out of their spare parts. This time, they’re building around a young core, free cap space to spend in what will be the most loaded free agent class in recent history and a high draft pick to play with.
anyway, as a long time Nets fan from the days of the great Drazen Petrovic (my NJ uncle convinced me he was a better choice than a center who wouldn’t stop sweating), good times ahead.
As for the Knicks, run and gun coach was a good hiring decision, but other than that, it will take years to wipe away the stench that Isaiah left.
It really disturbing to think what those that preceded
Walsh and Pringles did to the Knicks
They’ve got cap room, that’s for sure. And from what I’ve seen, Gallinari is pretty damn good.
They seemed to have screwed another draft up by picking Jordan Hill over Brandon Jennings of course.
But Jordan Hill is not bad, he’s got a nice outside shot. Toney Douglas is pretty good too.
They Knicks biggest problem is the no draft pick this season.
Maybe they sign Carlos Boozer after the Jazz get their #1 and draft Derek Favors with it??/ Ugh…

Unfortunately for the Nets
Unless they break ground on that arena in Brooklyn, they can have all the cap space they want they’re not going to be able to convince top tier free agents to go play in the swamp of obscurity.

i'd vote for the Devils
if they were a choice. no matter how bad it looks like they’ll be, they always make the playoffs (and often do damage).
what?
Eli is not a disaster, right now he is the best thing about that team, and they are trying to build a whole new sports complex for the islanders.
yeah that was a stretch
he doesn’t have the same options that he used to have, the giants keep shooting themselves on the foot literally and figuratively. I’m still okay with the direction with this team in general.
LOL, who voted for the Knicks to win the NBA finals?
seriously, have you been watching basketball the past 3 or so years?
