How to anger a Mets fan...
I don't hate the Mets. I don't dislike Mets fans. In fact, I really like their new Stadium, especially since it has a Shake Shack.
What I don't like is all the crap I've been getting from my friends who are Mets fans.
"Way to buy another championship!"
"A-ROIDS!"
I can see why they're bitter. They had a terrible season. Abysmal. Injury bug worse than the swine flu. Terrible plays and errors and incidents that made 2009 a cursed season. Look back at how their previous three seasons ended:
2008 - Blew a late season lead and missed the playoffs.
2007 - Blew a late season lead and missed the playoffs.
2006 - Carlos Beltran freezes and watches a called strike three end their season.
So without further ado, "How to Anger a Mets Fan"
1) (Refer to any of the three incidents mentioned above.)
2) "Luis Castillo" and "Pop-ups"
3) David Wright's new helmet and Lord Helmet from "Spaceballs"
4) Omar Minaya
5) Bobby Bonilla and Mo Vaughn
6) Cocaine + Daryll Strawberry + Doc Gooden
7) Oliver Perez
8) Braden Looper/Armando Benitez
9) Chipper Jones and/or John Rocker
10) and Finally, Scott Kazmir and Victor Zambrano.
---
Nothing gets them more riled up than the Zambrano trade. I almost got into a fistfight over it last night at a bar. SO if you want to press the buttons of those occasionally annoying Mets fans, choose any of the above.
Or, send them to the following article: http://www.writingthepine.com/2009/11/13/victor_zambrano_trade/
It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

I don't get...
the hatred from the Mets fans. The Mets are actually my third favorite team, so I do root for them to do well, but Mets fans will still spout the aforementioned complaints to me. The facts are: the Mets play in the same city as the Yankees, so they have the same potential earning capacity. The Mets consistently have the second or third highest payroll in the game, so they “buy” their “success” as well.

I want the Mets to do well until we meet in the World Series.

When I’m at Citifield, I root for the Mets. When it’s the Mets vs. any team non-Yankees, I root for the Mets. I can’t see why most Mets fans can’t reciprocate.
Even this past World Series matchup was dubbed the worst world series for a Mets fan. Jeez, they’d rather root for a division rival that had usurped them recently and lobbed verbal grenades over another team from New York? For shame.
Here’s to a 2010 Subway Series matchup!

yeah...
I don’t really get it. Most Yankee fans root for the Mets to do well too, it’s good for our city. I don’t really understand the venom from the Mets fans against their other NYC team.

Eh
Honestly, I think Omar Minaya is an idiot. A total, absolute, utter idiot.

this sounds more like
“little brother” syndrome. When you spend this many years as the younger sibling of the city, you just end up being a little, (or in this case, a LOT ) resentful to the bigger team’s success.

Best to just ignore them
The Mets are irrelevant, thus Mets fans are irrelevant.

I agree..I don't hate the Mets, their team and like their new stadium (a lot actually)
..tho I don’t understand the whole Jackie Robinson obsession…I mean I get it, what he did and all that good stuff…but he didn’t play for the Mets did he?
That said, I can’t stand Met fans. I mean this doesn’t go for all of them, cuz there’s of course sane baseball fans who are Met fans.
Its just the re-hash all the cliche things said about the Yankees. Over and over and over again.
Yet…they’re harmless, cuz you mention basically ONE of those the bad things that happened to their team…and they shut up.

i'll never really get that either
the Mets new ballpark had a ‘Jackie Robinson Rotunda’. WTF? do they know he never actually played for them? the Mets didn’t even exist until 6 years after he retired. and that the Dodgers are actually rivals of the Mets? it’d be like the Yanks having a Ted Williams Rotunda.
if i was a Met fan, i’d be pissed. how about a Tom Seaver Rotunda? or Agee, or Clendenon, or Davey Johnson, or Bill Buckner?
and i rooted for the Mets in ‘86. did they root for the Yanks against their arch-rival in ’09? didn’t seem like it. oh well. i’ll live.

If they’re going to have a Robinson Rotunda to honor their connection to the Dodgers, they should have a Bobby Thompson Wall in left.

The fact that we are talking about them is funny b/c no one but them really cares
The only time I root against them is when they play the Yankees besides that, as NYSJ said, they are irrelevant. They are like little kids on the street that run around wanting to play with the big kids (Yankees). You kinda waste a moment with them and then you leave them to do whatever little kids do. Have they ever really mattered? OK, I’ll give them their “Big Boy Time” in the 80’s but so what! I will never take them seriously!

Don't forget Piazza....
And I see the same phenomena here in Tennessee with Braves fans. They prefer to root for the Phillies over the Yankees.
I don’t care who is playing the Red Sox as long as the Sox lose all the time every time. I just don’t get the whole “cheering for division rival” thing….
I told you we would beat Georgia!! Now, as for those 9 wins in '09......

yea people hate the Yankees entirely too much...
There is nothing that could force me to root for the Red Sox. Nothing.

Though,,
.. Steve Summers of WFAN put it well about rooting for Phillies. If the Phillies win the WS, there’s no parade in his hometown and he doesn’t have to keep reliving in on the back cover of the Post and Daily News. I can see that angle.

Personally I can’t stand the Mets, but its not worth arguing with one if they talk about “buying” the team, esspecially when they have the 2nd or 3rd most just about every year. That being said though, I don’t care if they win the NL East because I moved to SJ recently and Philly fans are almost as bad as BoSux fans…

Most people just repeat what they hear
Dont let it bother you there just not smart enough to think of anything on there own so they say way to buy another one not knowing how much they spent to cellar dwell.Remember those who complain about money have none, are you really gonna let a box dweller upset you?Not me

Just having...
a GM by the name of Omar Minaya and two more years of Oliver Perez is painful enough. Any true Met fan will tell you that.

Poor Luis Castillo
I don’t dislike the Mets and I root for them too as long as it’s not a Yankee game. But wow, I was there for that game and I felt bad for the guy. What a way to lose. Sums up their last few seasons. Looking good, looking good.. then bam! out of the playoffs.

I hear talks of a Castillo trade.
Shows how much they really love him.
Yankees all day.

You felt bad for him?
Wow I didn’t.
Didn’t he have a better season than any of the other minor leaguers in the Mets lineup this year?
by nyyrocks29 on Nov 17, 2009 3:40 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, a little bit
I have no opinion on Castillo one way or the other and if it happened all over, I’d still want the Yankees to win no matter what way. For a player though, it’s the kind of play that’s hard to live down, the type that he’d probably still remember years down the road. So I felt a little bad for him on the way home, but when it happened, I was just as giddy as everyone who saw that game.

Met fans
complaining about the Yanks ‘buying’ a title is ridiculous. they play in the same city. if they can’t make enough, or if their owner(s) gets conned into losing his money, the Steinbrenners can’t be held responsible.

They'll be angry enough as it is
wouldn’t it be funny if they did nothing this offseason? No Halladay. No Holliday. No Bay. No Lackey…………..
I would laugh so hard……………
And yes, I do HATE the Mets
