I am getting a strong vibe from Yankee officials that the intention is to non-tender Wang and, perhaps, not even offer him a small base with incentives to return.

Unless they know fopr a fact that the inside of his shoulder is made of pudding,
that would be incomprehensibly stupid.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

My main ? would be..
Who else they gonna put in his place?…
Assuming Andy comes back, its CC and A.J….and who else?…Take joba off the leash and put hughes on it?…still have a 5th starter to choose…
Unless they do pick up a lackey or somebody?…I don’t know…
I really didn’t want to get rid of wang, I thought he could ressurect himself but it seems the yanks are not willing to take another chance on him?…you don’t finder a sinker ball pitcher who is good for 18+ wins and a lot of groundballs of to El Captain…hope he stays…

He would not be able to play until after mid-season so they
cannot count on him to be a part of the rotation anyway—especially since they have no idea how effective he would be coming back. Since Cashman has access to doctor’s who have actually examined him and we don’t, I would give them the benefit of the doubt that they know something. I certianly do not hope that he stays if he is going to be ineffectual and useless.
Ill always give cashman the benefit of the doubt, always..
But he better be pretty damn broken to just blatanly not take a chance on him..when he’s one of only four starters who we KNOW for SURE can pitch for us and be pretty damn good at it….
So if there not gonna sign him they must know, following your basis, that he won’t be 100% for a long time or when he gets there he won’t be anywhere as effective as he has been for us….
Regardless…its always hard too see a 20 game winner decline like this, so hopefully no matter where he plays (other then boston), he does well….

Unless they are 100% sure that he's done
then this might be the dumbest thing Cashman could ever do. He’s seriously going to pass up on a young talented pitcher who, when healthy, they have seen be a quality pitcher. If he’s healthy, then he is an ACE on most teams. And because he didn’t play last year they can get him pretty much for FREE!!!!! And they’re going to pass that up?
Wang has done great with this team before his foot injury, and it’s all gone downhill from there for him. But he won’t stay injured forever. He’ll be back sometime in June/July of next year. And if they pass up an opportunity to bring him back for practically no money at all, then Cashman needs his head examined.
My Hope Is...
That they let their doctors evaluate him before they jump to any conclusions. I still believe that he can come back to form. If they can constantly ram Joba starting down my throat (which I refuse to believe he can do effectively), why not give Wang a second chance?
I just assumed he’d be back in Pinstripes next year and now I’m freakin’ out.
Keep an open mind
Don’t refuse. Joba has already proven to be an effective starter. For one thing, he had 3 consecutive ‘ace’ starts in July. There are more things, but you get the idea. He’ll get stronger and more consistent as he gets used to the grind. He’s still a child after all.
And don’t freak out. If Wang ever pitches again, the most likely place is with the Yanks. If he pitches for someone else it’ll be because the Yanks have better. You know no one will outbid them, right?

Alternatives
Either:
1) His shoulder is toast.
2) They think that by acting like his shoulder is toast they can drive him down to league minimum.
3) They think that the other internal options are or will be better pitchers.
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
But...
Does the Yankees really need to drive Wang’s salary down to the minimum? A small base with reachable incentives seems to be the best way to go.
Let’s face it, we don’t know anything about number 1, but we’re pretty sure number 3. Who in the farm/existing roster is better than Wang? He always pitches 5,6,7 innings and if he could come back at the back end of the rotation and eat up that many innings. I am ALL for it.

Wow
That would be a very bad move. CMW was a 19 game winner for them. I would not just kick the guy to the curve. Because clearly they have no idea what or if anything that they have in Joba. He wants to be a starter but honestly he has not showed anything as a starter. Hughes was awesome this year but is he going to follow the same path as Joba when he joins the rotation next.
I say you have to see what CMW has left before you kick him to the curve.
Dont 4get friend...
Before they started messing with Joba’s innings limit, he was what,…8-3 with a sub 4 era…..
I still think joba can do it in the rotation…Guess we will see this upcoming BB season…

please
bring him back. Someone will pick him up. Give this guy another chance. He will prove himself
VA Yankee since 93'
Give him that incentive contract
If he turns it around I know I’d rather have him than Lackey
Jerry,
Please cut Antonio Pierce.
Thanks,
DB
Shoulder injuries
are career killers. There’s such a low percentage of pitchers that return from them at the same level as before the injury.
Unless Wang is willing to take a minor league deal, letting him walk isn’t a bad move.

Bring back Wang!
Cashman, great offseason last time, don’t screw this one up! He was our ACE, he is a reliable starter, we cannot afford to let him pitch well for someone else.
"We're only going to score 17 points?"
Too soon to give up on Wang
This guy has:
1. Won 19 game in back-to-back seasons. That’s no fluke.
2. Has not had an ERA higher than 4.07 prior to 2009.
3. Proven he can pitch in New York.
4. Can deal with the pressure of anchoring a starting rotation .
5. Only turns 30 in March 2010.
It will be a big mistake to just let him walk away.
Unless you have seen tthe x-rays or spoken to
one of the physicians who have attended him, this is a very silly argument. Maybe they know something?
Agreed.
Although I would love to see Wang back as a starter this season, we have no idea what kind of major issues he may be having. Its a shame, if he ends up being done in pinstripes, it’ll always be sad to think of what could have been…
