I've gotten five texts from Yankee-hating friends about the foul call, including "the yankees paid the umps" and "that ump should be executed"
by Rumplestiltskin02 on Oct 9, 2009 10:20 PM EDT reply actions
Well I really did get the texts
But I think the execution one is a joke, but the paying the umps isn’t.

did you see the replay?
I’d assume so too….

the strike zone is always debatable...
that ball was 3 feet fair…
No debate on that. Someone should be shot for that.
If that was a Yank who hit that I’d be killing infants right now.

was thinking the same thing
In the late 90s, we got all the breaks, like the Maier HR. Recently, the breaks have been going the other way, like the midge attack in Cleveland. Maybe things have turned back our way.

oh man
The first true classic of the new Stadium. Is there any chance this series comes back to NY?
by long time listener on Oct 9, 2009 10:34 PM EDT reply actions
exactly
Whenever I see the 2004 extra-inning game (the one where Jeter dove into the stands) on Yankees Classics I think, “Oh, that was a great game.” When I think about Game 7 in 2003, my heart rate goes up. This is the kind of game that’s going to send my heart rate up.
by long time listener on Oct 9, 2009 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions
there's something about this team
it’s pre-2004ish again.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Oct 9, 2009 10:34 PM EDT reply actions
WHAT A FUCKING GAME!!!!
other than the fact that it almost gave me a heart attack while I watched it, now that it’s over, WHAT A GAME!!!!!
w/e...
of course it always comes to that….
Robertson came in and did good didn’t he?
What the f$%k is the internet?
by FreeBradshaw on Oct 9, 2009 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions
I generally like what Girardi did in G1
Put in Hughes in a danger spot, then Joba for an inning, then Mo.
But this was a close game, and we didn’t know how long it would go, so to blow Joba on 2, then Coke on 1, then Hughes on 2 (even if he had trouble). Just not good bullpen management.
This isn’t Little League…you don’t have to try and get everyone in.
by PortlandYankee on Oct 9, 2009 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions
If you rely on Marte in a close game
You are winning in spite of yourself.
by PortlandYankee on Oct 9, 2009 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions
not that it matters
But ESPN.com keeps saying that we just won Game 2 of the NLDS. Slowly extract your heads from your asses, ESPN.
by long time listener on Oct 9, 2009 10:49 PM EDT reply actions
Jesus
That pitch to A-Rod was right down the middle. If Nathan WANTED to give up a game-tying HR, he couldn’t have put it in a better spot.

a little funny (in a sad way)
Phil Cuzzi’s Wikipedia page is already closed to editing due to vandalism.

Seriously, thought, that was a terrible, terrible, terrible call.
by long time listener on Oct 9, 2009 10:58 PM EDT reply actions
it's fine and suspension worthy, no doubt
worst call i’ve seen in baseball in years.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Oct 9, 2009 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions
At the very least, there’s no way he can ump the game(s) in Minnesota. If nothing else, they have to swap with someone on another crew, but they should probably send him home for the post-season.
by long time listener on Oct 9, 2009 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions
i think for safety reasons
they won’t travel him to Minnesota. it sounds ridiculous but that’s life right now.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Oct 9, 2009 11:05 PM EDT up reply actions
LOL (IN A SAD LAUGH)
POOR GUY BUT THAT WAS A TERRIBLE CALL. I HOPE HE’S SAFE FROM ANY DISGRUNTLE TWINS FANS.
"Hey, you F*?ked up! You trusted us!"
Look at this way
If Mauer gets that double, they walk Kubel to set up the DP. No harm done.
No one calls 96 tainted, and that was all about the Maier HR
i agree they had their chances
but there are blown calls and then there are BLOWN calls.
that was certainly the latter. it’s inexcusable for a professional umpire to miss a call that blatant. that’s the bottom line.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Oct 9, 2009 11:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Creepy, and exactly "13" years to the same night as Maier according to YES network.. 13=ARod
