Around SBN: Sean Keeley's Week 12 College Football Buffet

Babe Ruth has struck out looking. Displeased, he leans on his bat, right hand on his hip, and looks back at the umpire. He utters something that can only be imagined. Lou Gehrig, on deck, leans on his bat, too, as if he has seen this act before. Ruth finally shuffles away, head turned to the umpire, dragging his bat through the dirt.

The scene, along with eight seconds of footage of Ruth playing the outfield, was found by a New Hampshire man in his grandfather’s home movie collection. It provides a rare look at Ruth, a showman even in defeat.

... it represents the archive’s only game action of Ruth playing in the outfield...

Very cool. Check it out.

I didn't know Ruth was capable of striking out

Now if someone can find that clip of Ruth participating in Nathan’s annual July 4th hot dog eating contest.

They say

watching Ruth strike out was more exciting than watching other players hit homeruns.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

Why would you feel sorry for them?

They love what they do and I’m sure they get paid well by MLB for archiving every piece of audio and video footage found from the game of professional baseball. If I was that good at identifying players and ballparks, I’d want that job too. Taking a hobby and turning into a career is win!

hmmm

I can see how it could be sarcastic, now that you mention it. I guess with all the vitriol on the other threads, I figured it was authentic.
