The Volume of Yankee Stadium this Postseason!

A follow up on jscape2000, and his post on 'A Thought On The Sound Of Yankee Stadium'

Please tell me I am not the only one who has noticed!? I would like to thank jscape2000 on his most recent post..'A Thought On The Sound Of Yankee Stadium'... This has been in the back of my mind since the Twins series... I've been to the stadium 3 times this postseason, including both walk-offs and last nights World Series victory! The sound guy should be FIRED! Yankee Stadium sounds SO FLAT! A friend of mine told me that even Joe Smuck and Tim DicKarver mentioned the borderline silence inside the Park last night...

Star-divide

"3) In my experience, the piped in sound effects tend to drown out organic noise while the Yankees bat.  For whatever reason, the Yankees have made the decision not to used sound effects while the Yanks pitch and play defense- a time when it seems the average fan needs more guidance."

______________________________________________________________________

I CANNOT AGREE MORE! WHY is it SO QUIET in between pitches??!?!! Yankee Stadium is the only stadium in the world that keeps this silence?

What's the explanation to this? During the ALCS the Angels were just the opposite.. they couldn't stop with the sound effects!

When talking about how loud it was there during Games 3,4, and 5, I referred to it as CARPET BOMBING! NON STOP SOUND EFFECTS!

Did the Yankee players ask for this? Maybe to keep their focus? I tell you what, If I was the sound guy in Yankee Stadium I would keep it so loud in that place that you wouldn't be able to hear yourself think! That's what I remember about the old stadium...

I think were over exaggerating the effect of the capacity and the structure of Yankee Stadium.. It most certainly has to do with the Cheer leading!

During each game this postseason there has been what,.. 2-3 'Make some Noise' effects?...   'Black Betty' pumped through the speakers twice each game?... 2-3 'CHARGE' effects?....

Come on now! That place should be rockin'! They need a catalyst to get this crowd going...we all know once New York fans really Get In To IT, there's no stopping the NY Teams!!

Does anyone agree with me?! or am I nuts?

I'm afraid of the potential volume that were going to see in Philly. I bet that it won't be so quiet in between pitches..

I have season tickets

and I’ve been to plenty of games to the old Stadium, and the new one. Here is what I observe.

The old Stadium was louder. Simple as that. The old Stadium had the “Yankees baseball” atmosphere. It had the mystique. It had the aura. And it had the loudest fans in the sport. The new one? While it has definitely created a home field advantage for the Yankees, and while it is still pretty loud, it doesn’t compare to Yankee Stadium. Why? I have a few reasons.

First of all, remember guys. The Yankees got 55000 a game at Yankee Stadium last year. This year, with the smaller ballpark, the recession, and the high prices, they were averaging maybe 46000 a game? Maybe a little more? I’m not sure. But it’s a huge drop-off. Simply put, if there are less fans in the ballpark, it’s not going to be as loud.

Second, the prices. Now, I know that no Yankee fan wants to hear this, but from my personal experience, it’s true. The seats in the first section are not always filled. And during this postseason, although they are filled, it’s not the same. The people sitting there aren’t all real Yankees fans. They are people with a ton of money who decided to come to a baseball game. I bet half of them can’t even name 5 players on the Yankees roster. They are people in suits, business men. They don’t shout often. They aren’t loud. And they are the closest people to the speakers. With not a lot of noise close to the speakers, it doesn’t sound as loud on TV.

Third, the way the Stadium is set up. Yankee Stadium had a different design (I’m not good with the Physics of whatever causes it, but I know something causes it) then the new one has. The old one was built better for noise. I’m not sure. But I think that because the old one was a little more closed. Less space. More walls. The noise from the fans rebounds a rings off the walls. It makes the Stadium louder. There is MUCH more open space in the New ballpark. And I think the noise travels further away, and it doesn’t sound as loud.

You made a good point too. There aren’t any sound effects (except when a Yankee strikes out a batter) when the Yanks are pitching. The Yankees don’t need to go overboard with it, but I’d like them to do SOMETHING when the Yanks are on defense, to, like you said, “help the average fan who needs guidance”.

It’s sad that the stadium isn’t as loud as it used to be. It’s still one of the loudest in baseball. Remember that. But it doesn’t feel like Yankee Stadium. Hopefully next year when they lower the prices a little bit and they have real fans sitting in the front instead of these businessmen who don’t spend any time in their seats, it will be better.

I don’t care that much however, if the Yankees win the World Series.

3 wins to go!!!!!

You’re right about the open spaces, I hadn’t thought about that. Those gorgeous open arches that make it so easy to watch the game while in the beer line also allow the sound to slip away.

2 wins to go.
