Crisis Mode? Are you kidding!?!

In the aftermath of game 1, funny how the media suddenly pegs the Yanks as in crisis mode. "Oh no! This changes everything!" they cry. Well, it does change one thing:

We're 0-1 in the World Series.

We still need to win 4 games before the Phillies do.

If we win 4 games, we're World Series Champions.

We'll probably have to beat Cliff Lee on the way to a possible championship. Consider this: if CC gave up ONE homer to Utley and had the other fall for a double, plus our relievers actually HOLD THE SCORE where it was for a couple innings, Jeter scores in the 9th inning to TIE THE GAME. That would have us going into extra innings with a crack at the Phillies bullpen, and with Mo giving us potentially two innings on our side of things. That would put us in a great position to win the game.

As dominant as Lee was last night, it's not hard to see how we could have won that game. It can be done. If we want to be WS Champs, we must do it. If we can't or won't, we will not deserve to win this World Series. It's pretty simple.

Basically

I’m a little surprised at some of these news articles I’m reading. “Yankees stunned” or “Crisis…panic time”. It’s only one game. There are still six more (possibly) to be played. Sure, we lost last night, but that doesn’t mean anything. All it means is that we are 0-1. We can easily come back and win four in a row. We just have to focus.

What I like...

is headlines like " Phils stun Yankees in Game 1." Last time I checked, the Phillies are a pretty good team- defending champs, no less. I’m not sure any World Series game should ever be considered a stunner.

Especially not a game that was 2-0 in the 7th inning.

love ur optimism but......

we have to win tonight, bottom line. This philly team is very strong and cliff lee made us look like little leaguers at the plate last night. We need to win tonight and get this series turned around fast!

Game 2 isn't a must-win, but you approach them all that way.

Obviously we want to win every game because as you say, the Phillies are an excellent team, you just don’t know how the remainder of the series will unfold. You win every game you can, when you can.

That said, there’s no such thing as “must-win” until the Phillies have 3 wins and are looking for that final victory to take the WS. If you lose today, you come back for the next game and try like the dickens to win that one… and so on, until the series is over and you’ve either won or lost.

Did the Red Sox quit when they were down 0-3 in the 2004 ALCS?

Did we quit when down 0-2 to the Braves in 1996 WS and heading to Atlanta for the next three games?

Lee didn't beat CC 6-1.

He beat CC 2-1, then our bullpen showed us just how well CC was dealing by entered the game and immediately giving away tack-on runs to put the game out of reach.

Even if AJ is pitching no hit ball into the 5th I wont relax if we havent scored

because every time AJ throws a wild pitch I think it’s meltdown time , and he melts down FAST when he does.

I won't feel comfortable until we've got a 5+ run lead and we reach the 8th inning.

Any pitcher can suffer a meltdown at any time. Heck, in 1996 Greg Maddux was darned near unhittable (game 3? game 4? don’t recall exactly which one) except for one inning, the 3rd if memory serves, in which somehow the Yankees scored three runs. They couldn’t score before or after that inning. This was a season in which Maddux was basically lights-out for the entire season. It can happen to anyone.
