CYC is writing the full recap, but you can discuss the poor offensive showing here in the meantime.

Cliff Lee was Cy Young Lee good
good, get it out the way.
CC was good too, but it didn;t matter.
Offense sucked. Jeter was the only one at the plate the whole game.
Johnny, Tex, A-Rod, Jorge, Mats, Cano, Swisher, Melky? Where were ya?

Being dominated by an amazing pitcher
When CC shuts down a team is it the other team sucking or CC pitching well? Well the inverse is true. Jeter ALWAYS hits Lee.

Jeter his everyone.
CC was outpitched.
Only the 2 runs showed up, and were only solo shots, but he wasn’t ALCS CC. Too many walks and pitches.
Lee was NLCS Lee.

Quite frankly, CC sucked. If you watched Jorge’s glove, CC missed his spots quite a bit. That is not good. CC also never got a good grasp of the strike zone. CC is a great pitcher, and I think the Phils got a lucky “CC” tonight, but he cant pitch like that in future games and expect to win.

Firstly
CC didn’t suck but the first few innings he wasn’t locating. He had a good start but just not good enough against Cy Lee.

That required too much energy and I decided to leave it at firstly

Ok no problem. CC probably didnt pitch all that badly. But he didnt go very far. It is difficult to analyze a game right after anyways, at least for me.

I think that game was about as easy to analyze as they come
CC didn’t locate well with his fastball. He finally was able to get first pitch strikes on his breaking pitches. He made two mistakes to Utley. Hughes killed us with two no out walks in a row. Bruney is the same Bruney who sat out the ALDS and the ALCS.

Or you can admire an amazing pitching performance
He hit every spot, got ahead most batters, his curve was other wordly and unlike our pen didn’t walk anyone. CC pitched fine except for two mistakes to Utley. Hughes and Bruney should be ashamed.

CC had too many pitches early on.
I don’t know what happened…not enough strikes by CC.
He was good, yet he was outpitched.

Yeah his fastball wasn't locating well
I seriously blame the rest. I expect a MUCH better performance game 4, and if Lee is also on the mound I expect a much worse game than game 1.

I Dont want to see Hughes again this year
You guys can cry about Swisher all you want, but this guy is gassed.

I don't blame Swisher
You’d be a fool to blame Swisher for this game.
In no way was this on his slumping.

No
But he has been slumping ALL post season. Even I want to see Gardner beat out a couple ground balls

I guess it couldn't hurt...
but might as well put him in center for Melky.

Sorry, Guys
I forgot to wear my magic playoff hat again. This one’s on me…

Hughes turns to crap in the postseason. I understand the close strike call may have been a problem for him, but the big guys are able to rebound from that, not walk the guy.
As for Cliff Lee, tip of the cap. Awesome performance. Would have been a pleasure to watch if not for the obvious fact.

Hughes
Any reliever that walks two in a row out of the pen gets pushed down the call up list. Hell, Marte is becoming less worrisome than Hughes and THAT worries the shit out of me

Lee was spectacular tonight.
But our bullpen really put it out of reach. WTF happened?

What always kills you
No out walks

that’s what I’m asking.
it’s becoming a real head-scratcher at what has happened to our lights out bullpen.
Thank God for making us Yankees.

our bullpen should definatly be better than that.

Funny
I actually don’t feel too bad. I should be pissed, but for some reason I am not. A little disappointed. But I have faith that the next time we see Lee on the mound 1 the Yankees will be ahead in the series and he will NOT have kind of game in him on short rest.

CC gave those two pitches on a silver platter...
To Utley ,and yes, Lee won’t pitch everynight. They seriously need to replace Swisher he didn’t do squat. Hopefully tomorrow they’ll take care of old man Pedro. And Tex needs to quit swinging at bad pitches.
by spiritcrusher on Oct 28, 2009 11:46 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Swish needs to sit
just one game just to make him remember that his spot ain’t guaranteed. Plus Gardner may have something to prove and maybe some speed will shake things up. Tex needs to lay off uncle charlie and stop taking that damn fastball for a called strike. Seems like the last 10 at bats he keeps getting a sweet second pitch fastball down the center and he just lets it go.

If the Phillies had got Halliday as well, I'd be paying attention to that 'depression'
commercial a lot more. I will still worry if AJ is pitching a no-hitter into the 5th tomorrow if we havent scored any runs, because he tends to melt down fast , and because my trust in the ‘muddle relief corpse’ has left. I hope it returns.

Yankees in 6
was my prediction before this game, but i expected a better performance tonight. Jeter was the only one that really brought his bat. Lee pitched a lights out game, i’ll give him that. CC was pretty good but missed his spots and it cost him with Utley goin yard in two consecutive at bats. CC was absolutely dominant in the ALCS, and i knew he’d come back down to Earth eventually. same goes for Lee, he’s been incredibly dominant and eventually he has to come back down.
Swisher needs to sit. he’s pretty much a guaranteed out right now. Gardner’s speed would be an asset for a full game, and at this point cannot do any worse at the plate. Swisher needs to start takin hittin advice from his batting coach, and not his actress gf Joanna Garcia.

I wonder if Lee would be able to pitch like tonight again...
Without CC doing a shutdown of his own simultaneously. All I can think of is that simply the Yanks offense didn’t know him very well or weren’t familiar with his stuff. I remember the cameras at the Game 6 of the ALCS pointing at the scouts from philly on the bleachers checking on the Yanks…we did’t have the chance to do that to the phillies. Oh well, I think the Yanks are gonna look at the tapes of tonights game and figure a way to get to this guy Lee.
