WORLD SERIES Roster
Looks like Hinske and Bruney are in, and Guzman and Cervelli are out. This is what I anticipated with a bat needed to come off the bench and pinch hit in the NL park, and some bullpen help as well. Tough to see Cervelli not on the roster, but I never anticipated him catching one of these games. With Guzman gone, does this mean we don't see Gardner start in CF to maintain him as a pinch runner?

Bruney? Are you kidding me?
I don’t care how his last performance was. He Sucks!!!!!!! Joe Girardi must really want to lose if he’s adding Bruney to the roster. As for Hinske, he’s okay.

Did you follow Bruney's last third of the season?
He looked strong. He looked reliable. If nothing else, at this point I trust his arm more than Aceves.
What I’m wondering is, with Cervelli gone, does that mean Jorge is catching AJ, or does it mean we simply will be living on the edge after Jorge pinch-hits for Molina?

I am still not sold on Bruney.

Yesterday on Mike Francesa's radio show
Girardi sounded like he was sticking with Molina catching Burnett.

He's a bat ...
He’s got some pop—far more than Cervelli. It’s not like he’s going to start.

I think Cervelli has plenty of pop --
The boy can hit, and I have a hunch that he’s not intimidated by pressure-packed situations. Overall, I like what he brings every day, and it’s a shame he won’t be a part of the action.

Have you seen his action this postseason?
His catching is fine but he looks intimidated and lost at the plate.

Joe made the right move with Bruney
after those marothon games against LA, and only Gaudin left in the pen…the extra arm of Bruney could be important. I hate to see Sir Francisco of Cervelli go, but he’ll have his day in the spotlight soon enough.
by jetersyanks on Oct 28, 2009 12:13 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Good move.
I said it in the “Hinske or Guzman” thread, that Cervelli and Guzman have no place on the roster and that Hinske should be there and an extra pitcher, Bruney should be there.
We don’t have to use Bruney…Girardi…since you may (or probably not..) listened to me saying to put him on there now.
Bruney could help in an extra inning game. He seems like one of those guys, unlike the other young guys like Ace, Hughes and Joba, who have struggled, that would go out there and just pitch, like Robertson has.
Speaking or Robertson…he needs to be used more. I really would like to see him as the first reliever used (provided of course…the starter doesn’t go 8 and hands off to the GOAT)

Robertson earned it
I am sure the hardest part of managing is knowing who the “hot hand” is to go to in the bullpen. But it appears to me that Robertson has earned the opportunity to come in the 7th or 8th during a close game.

I would have dropped Aceves and added Shelley Duncan. Aceves proved that he sucks and Duncan can be legit off the bench.

Duncan can be legit-
ly terrible off the bench.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

What?
What the hell has Duncan done besides strike out?

Cervelli off the roster
Probably means that Posada is going to catch Burnett

Not necessarily.
Joe went out of his way to say he likes the combination of Burnett and Molina and that so far it’s been working well.

Gardner was never going to get a start it center.
As for the moves, I agree with them.
by Rumplestiltskin02 on Oct 28, 2009 2:20 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Not saying he was.
Girardi mentioned he might before the Angels series started and I still would like to see it. If Swisher continues to slump, I say give Gardner one start in CF with Melky in RF. Maybe against Pedro in Game 2?
by Larry Soprano on Oct 28, 2009 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would like to see it too
I’ve been saying it since the beginning of the playoffs. Game 2 would be a good time for it.

Lineup with Gardner:
R Jeter
L Damon
S Tex
R ARod
S Posadao
L Matsui
L Cano
S Melky
L Gardner
It makes as pretty lefty-heavy, removing a switch hitter for a southpaw. But it makes our order from 8-2 speedy, and it increases our defense.
My views is leave Swisher in. Even when he slumps he is a pain to get out because he works the count.

THe best Yankee lineup we have to offer!
by McDaniel on Oct 28, 2009 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Which?
The one with Gardner or the one with Swisher?
by GMan83201 on Oct 28, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Gardner
I cant stand Swisher. His head is in the clouds, as well as his eyes are before each pitch. I know why he does it but it is a little ridiculous. Besides why would you want to F with your vision right before a pitch. I think it is stupid, again i know the reason why and may god bless him and his family. Gardner is quicker, smarter, and better on defense. He hits for a higher average and has the same amount of hits as Swisher with 1/10th of the at bats.
by McDaniel on Oct 28, 2009 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
This Line up looks good to me.
I am not saying for the whole series, but to change things up for a game it looks pretty darn good to me. Plus the Phillies bullpen is not laden with a ton of lefties that are gonna shut down our offense. Those lefty bats bat pretty well against lefties. That means you’ve got Swish and Hinske available to pinch hit and JHJ to pinch run.
by Larry Soprano on Oct 28, 2009 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't think it has a chance tho...
Gardner’s belonged on the bench the whole year, and the only spot he should start is CF over Melky.
Melky plays good, Gardner on the bench.
Swisher has sucked in the playoffs so far, yet he fits in with the lineup even if he isn’t hitting, meaning he sees a lot of pitches and wears down the pitcher.
He’ll hit. He’s a streaky hitter and he’s due. The Phillie’s pitchesr use a lot of changeups vs. the Angels and Twins hard sinkerballers, so that should favor him too.
He usually loves to mash that hanging change.
Swisher may be the star of the WS. Boom.

protection for ARod
seeing how he will likely get pitched around whenever possible, I’d feel a lot better if the #5 batter was more of a threat, which definitely wasn’t the case with Posada Sunday night..Not sure who would fit the bill..Cano? Matsui? Stick it out with Jorge?
just sucks to see a IBB followed by a DP
by holycowboy on Oct 28, 2009 3:35 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Jorge
Posada had one bad game. Before that he was doing a very solid job in the ALCS. Matsui has looked tired, and he will be on the bench for roughly half the games when we are in Philly. And Cano isn’t an option until he learns to be something other than the BEMVP.
by GMan83201 on Oct 28, 2009 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Posada is the #5 hole hitter.
He’s outhitting Matsui, so he takes taht spot. None of the other guys, from Cano Swisher and Melky, should be hitting 5th.
Cano would probably be ideal, but he hits like Molina with men on 2nd and 3rd.

A-Rod/Tex
The best way to provide protection is to bat A-Rod 3rd and Tex 4th.
by gwc3 on Oct 28, 2009 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That would make it impossible for Tex to get hot
without A-Rod’s protection. He won’t see any pitches and it will be like the first month again.
Leave A-Rod/Tex the way it is. When A-Rod is hot, nobody will give him protection. He’s too good. And nor does he need any protection, because they walk him, or if they make a mistake he’s right on it.
I say leave the lineup. I think thats what Joe is doing too.
I’m leaving for the game now. I literally have goose bumps. It’s gonna be fun. I wish I had seats better than the Grandstand (about as high as you can get), but I’m not that rich. I’ll take what I can get.
GO YANKS!!!!!!
