Bring on the Bronx!!!
via a.espncdn.com
We can't Wait to host the pinstripes down here in Philly. We are foaming at the mouth at the ideas of playing a World Series vs your beloved Yankees.
I want to fist start with the fact that I am not a troll trying to fling turds at New York. As I have been to your city a number of times, and love visiting. Its tons of fun in my book. And I have a lot of respect for the Yankees, its history and an organization who will try to win at any cost. It must be cool knowing your owner is got your back and will pay what ever price to get his man.
That said, we won a championship last year. And it was great, because its been such a long time. But lets be real, we got Tampa last year. This year things are different, and after we clinched, we wanted nothing to do with the Angels. Trust me, every person in Philly want the Yankees. Yes, why would the Phillies fans root for the a more difficult opponent? Because theres a saying, "To be the man, you gotta beat the man". In many people opinion New York is "The Man". So guess what, although we are "The Champs", to many you are "The Man". We want to be "The Man", so its time to man up or go home!
So don't expect any love driving down to Philly during halloween, or during the same day we host your Giantsfor first place earlier that day. There is a storm coming New York, its a storm of ready, hungry, angry, ready to attack Phillies fans, as Citezens Park is not a place for blue this week end. As the chants have already began, "Bring on the Bronx", we are waiting, the question is, Are you ready for this?
In all seriousness, we are excited for the game. And want to show the world who we are. How do you guys feel about the game? Dont' let your homerism show, would you have rathered the Dodgers of ther Phillies? Whats your take on this series? Are you loving it like we are loving it? Heck, in my opinion, We are the man, and like I wrote earlier, "To be the man, you got the beat the man", we are the champs, and you have something to prove, not us. Whats your honest take, I live this stuff, so lets have fun with this.

I find it a little disrespectfull that I read very little on your blog aknowledging the Phillies.
You guys seem very confident that you got this in the bag. Our blog in Phillies was litter with “I want NY” stuff. As we are ready for this series, we are worked up about this. You guys are showing more passion over merchandise and stuff like that. Common guys, wake up, get hype, Philly is not a soft town, and you know that. This is gonna be a war, you do not have it in the bag. We need more post breaking down your opponent, you gotta show some respect.

Knock yourself out
We really don’t care who the Yankees play in the WS either way. Dodgers would have been fun because of the ancient rivalry and because of Torre.

disrespect?
How about not jinxing it?
We were in a dogfight with a team that wouldn’t die in the Angels. We starting thinking Philly when we’re up 3-1 like you guys…but game 5 obviously meant all talk about that should die.
Confident? Well…yea, we should be. As you should be too.
Many of us still had 2004 on the brain too. Even if this year’s squad was completely different…it still happened and all WS talk was fittingly killed.
That said…F the Phillies and the Eagles at that ;)

Just cuz they from NY, doesn’t mean I like them. Actually, I like picking on them (like the Jets…)

Then I hate the Giants, and Redskins next.
Mets are number 2 in my book as far as hated teams. The Devils will have to be the most hated hockey team. Nobody cares about basketball here so I don’t know who the Sixers fans hate.

Know the feeling
In 1996 after the Yankees won the ALCS and we were awaiting a winner between Atlanta and St. Louis I think every Yankee fan wanted the big bad Braves who, having won their first title in 95, everyone thought was going to turn into a juggernaut. We know now that it was the Yankees who became that late 90’s powerhouse, but there’s definitely something to beat beating the big boys.
So while I originally wanted to play the Dodgers, A) because of the Torre/Manny storyline and B) because they aren’t very good, I think my team can beat anyone, as I’m sure Phillies fans do too, and I’m psyched about dethroning the World Champs.
Yankees in 5.
And now we get to enjoy the Phillie Phanatic’s wacky hijinx.

Yankee fans owe him everything, the man is an icon not a mascot. I know u were prob joking but he’s not doin so hot nowadays. We have to win this one for the Boss.

I’d argue that the Boss has always been a very sick man (see: Billy Martin, hiring and firing; contributions to Richard Nixon; and, Don Mattingly, side burns).

There's a Simpsons episode
where Mr. Burns puts major leaguers on his company softball team, and Mattingly is on the team. Mr. Burns (acting as team manager) orders Mattingly to get a haircut or be benched. Mattingly comes back practically bald but Mr. Burns still goes into a tirade about his hair still being too long, then throws Mattingly off the team! It was a hilarious parody of that little bit of insanity in the Yankee universe at the time. :-)

Cliff Lee and Ryan Howard too...
Tho, I would have to say, if I was a Philly fan I’d be a bit concerned about that rotation after Cliff Lee.
Not that they aren’t capable of course, but Andy Pettite is the 3rd best starter in the WS..and I’d say AJ Burnett is arguably the 4th (behind CC and Lee of course…to which its probably either fanbase’s argument as to who’s better……CC BTW…)

We are worried about rotation past Lee.
Lets face it, even Lee is a question mark. New York has faced him before, Dodgers struggled because he was new to them.
I only find comfort in the fact that we played well up there this year. But win or lose, I will enjoy the series. And enjoy picking at the Yankee fans, (in good taste of course).

I was pulling for the Dodgers
Mainly because of Joe Torre, because it would have been pretty awesome for NYers to meet up with him in the WS. He’s still pretty much a deity in NY, and Joe Girardi is forever being held up to the standard of the man that took our Yankees to 6 World Series in 8 years.
But at the same time, I want nothing good for Manny. And I have a lot of family that are Philly fans (and Boston fans on the other side, damn, I was born into a shitty family for a Yankees fan!). So, there is already much trash being talked. With how close these two teams are geographically, and how well each is playing, I think this will be the most fun WS I’ve ever seen. Even more than Yankees-Mets in 2000. The rest of the country won’t care, but screw them, right?

the Yankees 2000 series v the Mets is comparable to the Phils and Tampa
in the disparity in talent between the winners and losers. The betting odds were never close and they proved true on both series. The weather stands out the most in my memories of last years WS and here in the Northwest there wasn’t much excitement about last years WS, a lot of people said ‘it aint the Mariners so who cares, but that’s not the case now…in fact you now have new Philly fans.
In fact I could be selling Philly stuff at a bar nearby, and if I had to give a discount for naming the starting lineup of the Phils I wouldn’t be set back a dime with about 95% of them, on the other hand THEY can name a LOT of Yankees.

trust me, they hate the Phillies now.
Because we matter now, before, no one cared. We where the skinny little kid in the back of the class that got picked on. But guess what, that skinny kid got buff and is not that little anymore. Now no one wants to pick a fight with that little kid anymore.
Mets fans only hate who’s in first place (most cases, it isn’t them). They love drinking that hater aid.

It must not feel good to have Girardi not entrust a lead in the 8th inning to ANYONE other than MO. Where did the ‘bridge’ go ? It is going to have to shine now because this isn’t the 2000 Mutts team, and THIS WS has tremendous potential to showcase the 2 top teams (not just the top 2 finishers) for a change.

yes, I can enjoy talking baseball to the opposing teams supporters
as long as it’s Baseball being talked about instead of the ‘poo flinging’ stuff I have seen on my trips to other team sites. That in no way says this site never wings out its own, but it is not the ‘norm’ compared to what I have visited on the Sux and Donut helmets (that’s a far as I go with non baseball observations) and it adds nothing to the conversation.
