If we happen to get rained out tomorrow night...

...should Girardi consider starting CC Sabathia instead of Andy Pettitte?  It bears some serious consideration in my opinion, and that's no knock on Andy Pettitte who has been an excellent playoff performer for a long time for this team.  But CC has been lights during the post season,  and I don't think we t want to get to a seventh game because anything can happen.  Plus, you still have Andy available for a game seven, "just in case".  What do you think?

If Saturday is rained out, should Girardi consider going with CC on Sunday?
Absolutely! You go with your best to get it done before it gets out of hand!

Why? Andy Pettitte is a time tested playoff performer and will be fine!

yeah that would be a good thing

the chance of light rain in the early night is 100% so lets not get our minds set, but that would be a good call.

UMMM WHAT???

As much as the Yanks would like to win, game 6 is NOT a do or die game… Game 7 obviously would be. You have got to save CC for a game 7- undoubtedly. Also, if the Yanks win Game 6 with Pettitte, you still have CC as your Game 1 starter in the Series.

Starting CC in a Game 6 with the Yanks leading the series makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Either way, CC would pitch on Sunday so what's the difference?

Whether that’s game 6 (rain out) or game 7, still Sunday. Better to throw your staff ace, on full rest when there IS a tomorrow than when there MIGHT not be.

the difference is...

if the Yankees win game 6 with Pettitte- whenever game 6 is- CC’s available for game 1 of the WS. I guess we’ll agree to disagree— if CC goes out there, fine— but I have faith in Andy to get the job done. Starting CC in a game 6 reeks of desperation to me.

I'd go CC

If the game gets rained out and he’s on full rest. He’s our ace, he’s pitched like a star so far…it’s better to slam the door. Game 7’s are tricky and its better to avoid them if possible. It’s not a knock on Pettitte but CC’s the 170 million dollar man who’s here for this exact reason. Yeah, it would keep him out of game 1 of the WS but he’d still be there for game 3 and 6 or 7 if we needed him. AJ and Pettitte probably have a better chance of beating the Phillies at home anyway.

It's not that beneficial.

We have two more games to play. One has to be started by CC and one by Pettitte. It’s not giving us any better chance of advancing by throwing one starter before the other. However, since the overall goal is to win the WS, it does make sense to maximize the SP matchups there. We’ll only be able to throw CC three times if he doesn’t pitch anymore this series (assuming we never go to fewer than 3 days rest). Putting off his start until the “if necessary” 7 would be the best way to ensure that. He’d still get two games then.

If we win game 6 there is no game 7. Deal with the World Series rotation when we win the pennant.

If Game 6 is rained out (which I don’t think it will be), yes.

I thought about this.

I still say Andy gets the start. He really hasn’t shown anything less than CC to be honest, he’s damn near as capable of dominating at this point…he’s that on his game.

I aint worried about rest.

There is no reason to not trust Andy right now.

if anything… Andy could get out of whack by adding another two days of rest. If he’s scheduled to pitch on normal rest on Saturday, then gets pushed back to Monday?— I’m not feeling that.

Not Just Andy or CC

We’ve got 11 pitchers on the roster, 10 of whom are available to pitch Saturday and/or Sunday. (AJ just went but is possible for an inning on Sunday like Weaver last night) No use burning out CC for a game 6 when we have good reason to believe that Andy and the rest of the pen get the job done. Its Andy’s turn to start and if he can’t get the job done we go with one of the bullpen guys. That was the plan coming into the series. It was a good plan all season and a good plan for the series. I don’t see a reason to change it now in a moment of panic.

Absolutely not

Pettitte pitches. The guy is a proven postseason pitcher and has come through in many big games for this team. It’s his turn to pitch, and you don’t skip Andy Pettitte in the postseason. It’s not even a do or die game. Game 7 would be. So, if they get to the do or die game, wouldn’t you want CC pitching in that one?

Doesn’t make sense to me. Pitch Andy. If he wins, then CC will face Lee in Game 1 of the WS. If he loses, then we have our ace ready for Game 7. Leave it the way it is.

As an Angel Fan

Please throw Pettite, I do believe any pitcher facing the same team 3 times in 10 days qill have some problems. Time will tell, great series and looking forward to seeing CC on Sunday!

R.I.P. Nick, you are missed!

Look forward to see him next year

because this ends tomorrow night.

It has been a great series though. Every game but Game 4 was close and gave near heart attacks to both team’s fans.

But seriously, this ends tomorrow.
