2 run homer in 9th, then Mo. Game over.

I’d have to watch them all over again. :-) It was his turn to come through and he didn’t. He’ll probably smack the crap out of the ball in game 6 back at the Stadium.

I can accept losing. In fact I was totally prepared for a loss. But when you come back like that in the 6th, our bullpen is supposed to hold a two run lead not cough up three the next inning.

I'm not.

‘04 was totally different. Those Red Sox were very good, and we didn’t have a CC. These Angels are honestly not that great. They are good, but we are the better team, bottom line.

by YankeesRock on Oct 22, 2009 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

See I dont think 04, I think 03..

no not the ALCS, the NLCS. Cubs had Wood and Prior at home for games 6 and 7, and lost. The thing that sucks is we had exactly what we wanted a lead late in the game, and all we did was give them hope.

Inexcusable

The Angels are a formidable foe, but there is no way the Yankee’s pitching should give back 3 runs after the offense scored six. Girardi really mismanaged the 7th and 8th innings. Horrible! Burnett and Hughes have to step up in the 7th and didn’t. I can’t believe what I witnessed in the bottom of the 7th.

Not true at all - Arod's overall post season average

was .279 before this year. Swisher’s was .208 before this year.

by cph on Oct 22, 2009 11:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

OK fine … how about since Game 3 of the 2004 ALCS? Barry Bonds was terrible in the postseason – until he wasn’t. Ted Williams’ career stats in October are terrible. I’m not saying that Swisher is in that class at all, I’m just saying that a limited sample size gives you bogus stats. Like what’s in Joe G’s binder.

I have no problem starting Swisher against the lefty in Game 6. If it comes to a Game 7, then I’d consider putting Gardner in. That also gives you a power bat on the bench, since Swisher does have more HR potential than GGBG.

i was glad we got back in it, even with the tense 9th inning. that’s what the playoffs are about, fighting back and forth for control.

i’ll tell you one person who is relieved even though he got no decision: lackey. he probably would have busted some faces for blowing the game after the way he pitched tonight (especially since he’s auditioning to be an ace next year in free agency).

Most postseason wins of all time. The guy is a true veteran and a gamer. He pitched well in Game 3 and with more pressure this time he’ll pitch even better. With Andy on the mound in NY, we should be headed to the WS.

He had a low pitch count

he was right to leave him in. After he put the first guy on, he shouldve been pulled. Cant blame Girardi folks. This one is on Hughes.

by YankeesJets on Oct 22, 2009 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I respectfully disagree

Hughes did give up a run, but If Girardi went to Marte a little earlier, than Hughes comes in with only 1 on, 6-4, and everything is different

by charlievona on Oct 23, 2009 12:03 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You probably also killed Girardi for taking Pettitte too early in the Twins series

After the first inning, AJ was taking care of business, and still had a low pitch count. Why would you remove him?

It's simple

Phil lost us this one. There’s no getting around it. He hasn’t been “himself” during this ENTIRE post-season which is making me nervous. When he comes in now, I’m actually reminded of how he was last year…
