No Dodgers in the Series? Bummer!
It is hard to be disappointed about anything when your team is one victory from getting to the World Series, but ...
I can't help but be a little bummed that if and when the New York Yankees get there the team on the other side will be the Philadelphia Phillies rather than the Los Angeles Dodgers.
All through the post-season I had been thinking that a Joe Torre-Manny Ramirez vs. the Yankees World Series was inevitable. And I was fired up to see it, though a little nervous about it. Now that it can't happen it's just a tad disappointing.
Anyone else feel the same way? Or, do you feel like you really don't care as long as the Yankees get there?

BIG YANKEE FAN,FROM MASS. HAVE TO PUT UP WIYH ALL THESE HOLE SOX FANS
Honestly...
I would have loved to see the Dodgers in the World Series, however, after they blew that one game, I realized they didn’t deserve to win and I just focused my attention on the Yankees. I still love Torre, but his team wasn’t playing like they were in the playoffs in my opinion. Basically put, I’m indifferent. So long as we get there. ;)
Just get the Yanks there...
…and win it!! That’s all I really care about. It would have been cool to see Torre return to NY- interesting what the fan reaction would be after the book… but I don’t really care.
What I do care about is Ryan Howard and the short porch. Eek.
Howard has a .654 ops vs lefties.
He’ll see one of, if not the best one in MLB twice in 4 games and the crafty vet Pettitte in another. Rollins also doesn’t hit them well and Ibanez for his career has been poor against lefties too.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

that assumes we’d actually, you know, watch
"[The Giants] beat us down. We were beat by a grown-man team, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. Out-manned us, out-gunned us. ... It wasn't even close." - Raheem Morris, 9/27/09

I don't really care
I would rather have played the Dodgers, but I don’t see any way the WS goes back to the American League park. I almost feel bad for how much I’m looking forward to the AL team facing Pedro Martinez. I remember when that guy was at the top of his game (that 17-strikeout game against us in September 1999 was the best-pitched game I’ve ever seen), and to think that he’s going to get battered in his one start – it just doesn’t quite sit right.

Let's
First get into the WS and then start talking about who is representing the NL.
Burnett’s gotta be jacked up about this one tonight- looking forward to watching him snap off some mean breaking balls.
Bummed that I cannot see the Yanks in the WS live. Getting
Dodger WS tickets was easy. I’ll be in Anaheim tonight, though. I get to watch them clinch. That will have to do.
Let's do it
Somebody get Jose one of Wakefield’s catchers mitts (since Wake is finished they don’t need them any more) so he can hold onto AJ’s big breakers, and we’ll look forward to Pedro redux. I know ARod wants to get even for Pedro’s aiming at him a few years ago.

I Would Rather Face The Phillies Anyway
Just like in 1996, I want to validate this championship by beating the defending champs. When Vincente Padilla is your ace, you are not going to get to the WS. Broxton blew any chance the Dodgers had. Looks the PEDs helped Manny a hell of a lot more than ARod.
I personally was looking forward to Yankees-Dodgers WS
Just because of the history and it being two big media markets, I’m not really excited about it now that it’s the Phillies. I’ll compare this inevitable World Series to the NBA Finals this year between the Lakers and the Magic – a lot of people (casual fans) complained about it not being a marquee matchup, but if you knew the history and the statistics, it was a great matchup if you REALLY watched basketball.
How could Yankees/Phillies Not Be Marquee?
First of all, the Phillies have a much better team, a much more passionate fan base than the Dodgers and spare me with the Joe Torre love fest. I, for one, dont want to see Torre and Mattingly possibly winning a WS against the Yankees. Lakers/Magic? The Phillies ARE the DEFENDING CHAMPS.
the only appeal Dodgers Yanks would have is Torre and Mattingly...
and that’s really just Yankee fans who care about that.
Maybe Manny coming back too.
It was all story like, and not adding to the fact that the Dodgers, with Manny a shell of his roided self, a much lesser opponent.
The Phillies are a much better opponent. Defending champs and talent wise.
If the Yanks get there, they’ll be facing the best team in the NL…hands down.

Need AJ tonight
I hope he was watching the clinic CC put on the other night: 1st pitch strikes and stay ahead in the count, and then blow them away with your best stuff. No more bouncing pitches to the plate , and 5-6 walks, you got nasty stuff big guy, put that stuff over the plate and let em try and hit it! Lets go Yanks!
by BlackandGoldSSgt on Oct 22, 2009 2:45 PM EDT reply actions
I expect that tonight's start will be much like his first two starts
6 innings and 2 runs should be enough for us to win. I hope Girardi is smart in how he uses the bullpen. But since that isn’t going to happen, I hope that he’s lucky and we have Mo on the mound in the 9th with a a lead.
by long time listener on Oct 22, 2009 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions
The good thing
is that none of the pen besides Gaudin pitched last game so they will be rested, wouldn’t be surprised to see Hughes and maybe even Mo with 2 innings each to close this out,,,but you never know

I already set the cash aside for the order in chinese and party favors…..bout to take a nap so I can be fully rested to see a.j. dominate! Muahahahahahaha!…Yankees Rule……

Big Postgame Party At Halo Heaven After The Game Tonight
Final game of the season wrap up at the Halo tonight. BYOB.
I think I hate the Phillies as much as I hate the Red Sox
My room mate loves them, his family is from philly. Ive heard enough about them to last a life time. I hope we have a 4 game sweep to shut him up, or else Im looking for a new room mate!
well yeah
They were completely useless for most of this century, win one world series and act like they invented the game…remind you of anyone?
"How depressing is it being you? Would you equate it to being a lifelong Cubs fan?"
Baha, NO, WHO?
Red Sox nation baby! Theyve all been secret Red Sox fans their entire life, they just didnt show it until this decade. Kids walking around rocking Red Sox hats piss me off too. I’ve grown up and been raised being a fan of the winningiest, most hated (at least in the south) team in baseball and Im proud to be!
haha, nobody is doubting your offense. Just that the Phillies offense is unbelievably hot right now. I have no horse in a NYY/PHI world series. It could be a very exciting matchup.
vr, Xei
we are not scared
of anyone..least of all any National League team..especially one that beat up on a couple of teams like Colorado and LA who just rolled over and folded under pressure..we are the best team in baseball playing in the toughest division in baseball..
by BlackandGoldSSgt on Oct 22, 2009 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Perhaps, but you have yet to prove the latter part of that paragraph. The Yankees were third best in the tough AL East last year and the Phillies “man handled” the AL East’s best team last year. We’ll find out shortly. :)
vr, Xei
"The Yankees were third best in the tough AL East last year"
last year?
last year you got swept by the Red Sox, the currently-winless Titans went 13-3, and George Bush was still President. who gives a shit?
if 103 wins and a division title isn’t enough to prove that the Yanks were the best team in the AL East, what is?

Read Fail II
I guess you missed my point. It wasn’t that the Yankees were not the best team this year. It was that the team that was the best “last year” got man handled by the Phillies. So just because you are the best team, from the best division, which I will agree with. Doesn’t mean you are going to win the World Series.
vr, Xei
Vincente Padilla.....
Hiroki Kuroda…hell, Billingsley and Kershaw…all would be 4th starters on the Yanks.
Congrats on being unbelievably hot against 4th starters.

Kershaw would easily be your #2 pitcher. Billingsley up until his late season slump is on par with Burnett and Pettitte, but I will give you the nod due to his “what have you done for me lately”. Kuroda missed a couple months of the season, but is on par with what Burnett and Pettitte did this year given a full year of stats. Wolf pitched almost as well as Burnett did this year, the difference is insignificant. Given the chance to use a three man rotation, the Yankees starting pitching staff sets up great for it. Sabathia, Burnett and Pettitte are all very solid if not great (Sabathia). Given a mix of the Yankees and Dodgers starting pitching staff it would go…
1) Sabathia
2) Kershaw
-————————-
after that take your pick, you can make a good argument for any of the other five to fill out the #3 and #4 spots.
vr, Xei
....nah.
Kershaw = Joba Chamberlain.
nuff said.
Maybe you haven’t been watching Andy Pettite deal for the past 3 months either, no idea what this late season slump is for Andy
And I’d take AJ over everyone else too, regardless of his inconsistencies.

on the Dodgers.
in the NL.
Against the fail that is the SF Giants and Rockies for however many games.
Against any other NL lineup?
The Orioles lineup would make them contenders in the NL West.
Kershaw = 4.2 WASTE.

WAR
WAR is league and park adjusted. I know you like your team and your players. Perhaps you’d put Kershaw as the #4 pitcher on your imaginary Yankee team, but the facts are during the 2009 season only one Yankee starting pitcher put up park/league adj numbers better than Kershaw did. I think this is silly to argue any further.
vr, Xei
Your robotic stats...
don’t do anything for me.
Put Kershaw in the AL East. He’ll get tagged.
Put him in NY and he’ll beat around the bush just like Joba.
He’s good, he’ll be an ace.
Actually…things like WAR are pretty imaginary…so don’t rely on that as your sole basis.

The Yankee team the Phillies did beat 2 out of 3 games back in May is nothing like the Yankee team that showed up after the All Star break, in terms of chemistry and production,(and beating us 7-3 and 4-3 is hardly manhandling). So we will beat them, I have no doubt in my mind.

They “man handled” the Rays. The Rays were the best team in the AL East last year. Remember? The Yankees don’t make the playoffs every year. :)
vr, Xei
again with the last year talk
last year Mark Teixeira was on the Angels, last year Bobby Abreu was on the Yankees, last year Brett Favre was a Jet, and people were still figuring out what Twitter was.
last year is completely irrelevant to anything related to this year. i’m having trouble understanding why you keep bringing up 2008.

Totally agree
I am bummed about the dodgers not making it. It would of been a really interesting series. The good news though is that if and when the Yankees make it to the world series, they won’t have to travel as far. The phillies make me nervous though.
I hope AJ has his good stuff tonight. Tex needs to start hitting tonight especially with Molina in the lineup. We need to finish this series tonight! No messing around! Let"s go YANKEEEEEES!
At what point do we admit that Joe Torre is an outrageously overrated manager?
Horrible use of the bullpen, nearly no in-game managerial wins, always “going with his gut”, moving A-Rod to the 8-hole in the playoffs, writing a scornful bratty book about the Yankees.
I mean I’m always of the opinion that managers get too much credit for wins, and too much blame for losses, but at what point do we say that all of Torre’s success in NY is entirely a result of trotting out the best team in baseball every year?
I’m afraid I’ve just never been impressed with Joe Torre.
Facial LaFleur, total facial.
I like Girardi personally...........
made mistakes………. given. He’s only human.
He’s gambled alot this season with some unknowns and look where we are now.

according to fans of each team...
none of them.
People on PSA stroke the balls of the idea of having Mike Scioscia as our manager, but many Angels fans apparently don’t care for the guy.
It seems to be an involuntary reaction of many fans to HATE the manager.

true
I think many fans think the grass is greener in another dugout. People got on Torre and get on Girardi because we haven’t won in a while (I personally think Torre did a great job for us (really magnanimous of me, I know, since we made the playoffs every year he was here, and won 4 WS titles). But I also think he had his flaws, and that the team needed a change after 2007. I think Girardi has his flaws, too, but generally does a good job.)
Losing, however, magnifies the flaws. The Angels are one game away from getting knocked out, and I’m sure that makes some fans antsy. I know if we were down 3-1, especially given the way Girardi used the pen, this site would be filled with Fire Girardi chatter.
The moral: fans are never happy.

I’ve lived in South Jersey for 8 years this past March and up until last season I did not know one Phillie fan, now all these people are “fans” it is so annoying.
not in my experience
Philly is as die-hard a fanbase as they come. i have several friends that live and die Eagles, Phils, and some of them are even still into the Sixers.

No LA
No LA means no Joe Torre. Having Torre back would be like having Bernie Madoff in prime box seats. 15 * straight years * of playoffs * not knowing he had teams full of PEDs? BS!
The Bud Selig era of fraud had to stop. Fehr is gone, off Sleig and old time frauds like Torre/LaRussa and the 101.

Can't
believe people are complaining that the Phillies aren’t “Marquee” enough to play the Yankees. That has to be the most ridiculous thing I’ve read on any of these blogs…and it’s the only thing that has compelled me to comment. Really poor, Yankees fans.
