We cannot be complacent. We could have won this game. We don't know if we'll win tomorrow.
You win when you can in the playoffs. Period. Joe blew any chance we had to win this one by overmanaging his relievers.

Sit back and enjoy Joe. There is a skill to managing superstars and it doesn’t involve putting your fingerprints over every move.

When you have a pitcher that is dealing, and Robertson has been money in this series so far, leave things the fuck alone and stop trying to be so damn fine! Joe micro-managed his way to a loss tonight and if he doesn’t relax with that shit he might just cost us the series!

Sure he did. But the Yanks should have won this game long before Girardi brought in Aceves. The manager can’t drive in runs.

Ok, calm down everybody. Joe just overused the pen tonight. I hate to say it Micheal Kay (omg) has been saying it and BT. The way Joe used the pen may come back to bite him in the but and tonight it did.. But let us not get on the banwagon and fret. Did anybody see the angels faces when it was 4, 4. What was wrong with Robertson?
Now granted, the Yankees left too many people on base and had some terrible at bats, but to put in Aceves after a shakey game 2 and after Robertson was LOCATING…that was a bad move from the beginning.

Look okay yes ace threw the pitch but Girardi put him there
the bases were empty, maybe if robertson had men on base it would make sense. But Robertson has a better ERA and k/9 this season then ace. Aceves blew it on saturday, Robertson has been magic this postseason. I don;t care how much you say it was ace’s fault and it is, he never should have been in to pitch that inning

This one is on Giradi!
1. Why he did not have the Do Not Steal sign up for Gardner with an 0-1 count. Even I could figure Soscia for a pitch out there. I won’t say Jorge would still homered cause the pitch selection woulda probably been different.
2. Why Ace when Robertson did not appear in any kind of trouble.
I’m not gonna be yelling Fire Girardi, and it’s only one game; but this game is definitely on Joe

R.I.S.P.
The Yankees really need to get their bats going with people on base. I’ve been saying this since the ALDS. Eventually, you’re gonna have to get people in without the long ball. Twice after both Matsui and Posada got on base with no outs, did our 7,8, and 9 batters do squat! They are really killing the team, because it’s usually them who are up with men on base.

WTF? Girardi wants to loose?
The world knows that Pettite signals when he is through.. Then he crashes. He signaled tonight, Joe went out to the mound. I thought, “Joe finally understands!” Wrong. Homer. He’s done this for two years. As a former catcher,. he makes catcher decisions. He is supposed to make managerial decisions. How many more games is he gonna give away. Replacing Robertson is the last straw. He oughtta go now. He is not managerial material. And tonight he proved it . I’m calming down ok, BRownHornet – I’m turning off the TV. I'd like to see the offense do better, but remember
they’re facing very good pitching… I think we forget that… and playoff games are typically lower-scoring affairs than the typical regular season game.
I’d like to see the Yankees click on all cylinders, but the bottom line in the postseason is pitching and defense… Angels gave us a couple games due to poor defense, and our manager quite possibly lost us this game because of poor management of our pitching.

That’s what killed the twins…that’s what killed the angels last name…and that’s what killed us tonight….I don’t agree with the bullpen moves but that’s a problem that could have been avoided…..bottom of the order has to start producing….
Cc comes up next game…we shut em down…then a.j. put the fork in em at home…just hope cc pitches like 8 innings

because when we pinch run Brett Gardner, we have no power threat on the bench anymore.
Especially if we pinch run for Matsui, ARod immediately loses all lineup protection. Today they walked him with the bases empty because no one is afraid to pitch to jerry hariston jr.

Everybody keeps blaming Girardi
and I agree with that. Aceves had no business in that game at that point. Robertson should have been in. I’m tired of Girardi wasting his entire bullpen all the time. It was the 11th inning, and ALREADY, Chad Gaudin was the last man there. In the 11th! Girardi goes through these pitchers like a hot knife through butter. It’s worked so far, but I still haven’t agreed with it. Didn’t work tonight. There is no day off, CC is pitching on short rest, and every pitcher in that bullpen except Gaudin was used. That is not good.
However, the bullpen mistakes of Girardi was not the reason the Yankees lost this game. The reason the Yanks lost this game was early. Cano. Up with 1st and 2nd and nobody out TWICE in this game, and can’t do anything. Swisher, up with 1st and 3rd and one out TWICE in this game, and can’t get the run in either time. Melky, 0-5, and left a ton of guys on base. The Yankees did not get a hit with runner in scoring position today, and when that happens, what do you expect? The four solo shots kept them in it, but they could never get the big hit to put it away, and thats why they lost.

the bottom line
is that what Girardi did wasn’t necessarily the wrong move, it just didn’t make any sense.
if he would’ve stuck with D-Rob and lost, i could live with that. but i can’t live with changing a righty for a righty with 2 outs and nobody on. there’s seemingly zero reason for it.

What an idiot. Why change the pitcher? Aceves has been throwing BP for them in the series. His inability to handle a staff bites him in the arse. Stay in the dugout and next time you feel the need to take a walk, go down into the clubhouse.
by Southern Yankee boy on Oct 19, 2009 9:42 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The worse part is...
that girardi was basing his move upon match-ups and stats….some times you just gotta let ur pitchers pitch. Which what Robertson was doing.
by Jipeon on Oct 19, 2009 9:51 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
We need a statement game tomorrow!
We need to score more than 4 runs. We need contribution from everyone “top to bottom” and we need it 9 innings. The last thing we need is to have the angels thinking they have momentum.
by Jipeon on Oct 19, 2009 10:45 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
When he
made the move the first thing I thought was that because Kendrick is a very good fastball hitter he felt that a Fastball pitcher like Robertson might be more apt to give up a home run. Aceves is a little more polished as far as pitch arsenal. There’s no doubt there was some logic behind the move. What may have also hurt us was the 2nd and 4th innings, when we had runners on first and third and one out and did not get even a sac fly, or even better a hit. So we’d have been ahead 4 or 5 to nothing going into the fifth. But then again they wasted 2 and 3rd and no outs in the 10th so that kinda evens it out. And also Abreu’s baserunning blunder. Considering how close we were to losing Game 2, and the fact that an error gave us the win, maybe we should not get too greedy. The series is where it should be all things considered. The relievers won’t be wiped out for today cause Girardi used them judiciously as far as pitch counts.
