Manager Mattingly
Donnie Baseball would entertain offers to manage:
"It depends,’’ he said. "I don’t want to go anywhere that doesn’t want to win. I’ve been around this game now long enough and played for and coached some very good teams, so you want a team that’s on the verge of making the playoffs.
Mattingly is already being linked to the Indians and the Astros, but neither of those teams seem 'on the verge of making the playoffs.' The Indians were as bad as the Royals this season, losing 97 games. The Astros can at least look down on the Pirates.
Since neither team figures to contend soon, I think Mattingly is best off in Dodger Blue until a big market job opens up- maybe another punchless season for the Giants, or another implossion in the Cubs clubhouse, or even St. Joe's theoretical retirement.

Beggars can't be choosers
That’s kind of a bad attitude to have if he actually wants to manage. I mean most teams who are on the verge of making the playoffs aren’t looking to hire a guy who’s never managed a professional game. It seems like when you’re first starting out you need to take your lumps and try and turn a bad team around. If Torre actually retires after next year, he might have a shot at that job, but the Dodgers might decide to go out and get an experienced manager instead, or someone with more of a history with that team.

I have to agree with LTATB. I like Mattingly a lot but he can’t expect to be handed a team that is ready to be playoff bound. He has done a lot as a player and I will never take that away from him but as a manager…he has yet to put in any time. He needs to get “dirty” before he becomes a manager which may mean that he goes to the minors and manages for a while. Honestly, if he were to be handed a job then, to me, that is a slap in the face to other AAA managers who have put in countless hours managing in the minors.

Donnie Belongs in the Bronx ...
After watching Joe’s happy feet to the mound and in the dugout, I’m beginning to think it’s time to dust off ol’ #23.

I hope Mattingly doesnt get a managing job
I still look away when they mention him during Dodgers games, I dont want to see him Dodger blue, let alone any other teams colors. It still sickens me that Cashman jettisoned Yankee legends like Mattingly and Torre for his boy Girardi. Someday It would be nice to see number 23 managing the team he is suppose to manage, and finally win a title in pinstripes.
