Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Starting pitching; Andy Pettitte

The Yankees will go into Spring Training with a Rotation of

CC Sabathia

CMW

AJ Burnett

Joba

Some guy named Smith, Probably.

Why am I not turning handsprings?  Because humans are perverse and I'm as perverse as average, maybe worse.  Because we cannot control our emotions.  Because I like Andy Pettitte and hate to see him go, underappreciated, again.

I like the young guns Hughes and Kennedy.  I am hoping Kennedy makes it, but I fear he may not.  I like Hughes and think he can be a 'front of the rotation type'.  "CAN BE" is far from a guarantee.

But let's be serious, we care going to run out 4 starters who are very high power guys.  We could use Jscape2000 as a fifth starter and still win 95 games. (We would need a GOOD long man).  With Ronster as our #5 we might win 100.  This is a great rotation.  With reasonable luck this should be a fun year.

As for last year, good luck to Jason in Oakland and to Shelly Duncan.  I'll look forward to seeing Pavano win 20 in Cleveland, stepping right in and replacing CC (teehee).

As for our current roster, I could go to war with these guys.  Less than 100 days til opening day. If Andy signs, fine.  If Andy doesn't sign, fine.  He frankly does not have the stuff of the other 4.  In any case, who's first? Bring'm on!

less than 40 days to pitchers and catchers reporting...

I too am resigned to the fact that Andy’s days in Pinstripes may be over. Who knows what can happen though, we’ll see.

I think any number of the young guys could make up the 5 spot, not necessarily one guy. Hughes could probably stand to start in the year in SWB, and Kennedy- I just don’t see success for the guy in the Bronx. My hope is he impresses in spring training, and the Yanks can ship him out for more than a bag of balls. I think he can be a solid ML pitcher, but he just doesn’t seem made for NY.

Which leaves- Aceves, maybe Coke and others, then slide Hughes in there after a month or two…

Another pitcher

We’ve got plenty of guys in the system.

Why were Jscape2000 and Ronster

not on the short list? Good call, Cbeck. Problem solved.

I'm definately a 4 ... with alittle effort, a 3

I just returned from the MSBL Fall Classic in Clearwater back in November. I pitched a scoreless inning against Venezuela and the following day went 7 strong and beat a Tampa team 14-2. I still have the goods, and as Bert Blyleven said, “I’m throwing the ball as hard as ever. It’s just taking longer to reach the plate.”

And let’s not forget I’m a lefty… Screw Pettitte. I’ll sign for $2m. With that lineup, I guarantee more wins than Hughes and Kennedy combined for in 2008.

I'll have the office draw up

the papers. Uh I get the agent cut.

Deal ...

I treat my people right. Take 10% off the top when you make the deal happen.

Can you put me into the mix

for centerfield? I may have 40 year-old legs and have only swung a whiffle ball bat recently, but I just got new specs and can track a fly ball as good as the rest of them.
