Is it just me...

A couple of things I was wondering:

1) Mark Texiera was beaming at the press conference, and pretty much all he was saying was that he wanted to be a Yankee from the start. He also says he works hard, and expects a lot out of himself. You can't really rate, predict, or give stats for character, but this guy, at least to me, seems like the catalyst that will propel us to the playoffs. He wanted to be a Yankee from the start, and he knew he was going to be a Yankee 2 weeks before he agreed. Kudos to Brian Cashman for keeping that quiet. I honestly think that him, not CC, will be the face of the Yankees during his 8 year deal.

2) The Red Sox were getting ready to take Mark Texiera, embrace him, and cheer for him in Fenway Park. Now that he signs with the Yankees, they're calling him a jerk, and calling us fools for signing him to a long-term deal (the same amount of years they were offering). And now they're hoping that Youkilis will be as good as Texiera, just because he had a career year. Last I checked, they were willing to let go of Lowell and move Youkilis to 3rd just to sign him. Smells a lot like when we took A-Rod from them.

3) Why did Pettite reject the offer?. I really want him on the Yankees' pitching staff, but the only thing we want him for is the fact that he eats innings, and that fact that he'd be a good #4 starter (Joba's #5). A 6 million paycut is fair, in my opinion, seeing as he looked on a big decline last season. We stuck with him through the Mitchell report, and Pettite keeps on stating that he wants to be a Yankee and pitch in the new stadium. If he does, then why not take the offer?

4) There have been many posts, especially on this site, arguing about Joba, saying that he should be a starter. This shouldn't even be argued! His ERA was as good as a starter as it was a setup man. We have a bullpen flocked with great 1-2 inning guys. We signed Joba to be a starter, and just because he was good as a reliever, doesn't mean he should stay there. Did the pro-bullpen people see him outduel Josh Beckett in Fenway, keeping the Yankees' playoff hopes alive? Honestly, it makes as much sense as moving Jeter to CF this season.

We're doing the same at Halos Heaven..

But that’s more of a case of heartbreak over loosing a hot girlfriend to some rich guy. That and we all REALLY loved Kotchman.

I for one hope he continues to have a great career and that somehow the Angels can just find a way to win without him. I am thankful for his contribution.

Above all else, I am most sure that many are like myself, just dissapointed that we wont get the chance to watch him play Gold Glove 1B and work the plate like he does every day for the next 8 years…

exactly

I’d be doing that, not calling him a queer and jacka$s and jerk and all that. He signed where he wanted to sign, it was his decision, it’s time to move on.

“Kudos to Brian Cashman for keeping that quiet.”

He didn’t know either. The Yanks assumed Boston would land Tex just 2 hours before the Yanks got him.

“I honestly think that him, not CC, will be the face of the Yankees during his 8 year deal.”

Considering we will likely only have CC for 3 of those years, that’s a fair bet.

But I too was impressed with Tex yesterday. He’s an understated guy off the field who explodes on the field.

I read something that 2 weeks before he agreed, he and his wife agreed to go to NY, so he must have been in some talks with them if he knew that was an option. And CC is either a great liar, or he is staying 7 years.

Read this article:
http://www.boston.com/sports/columnists/massarotti/2009/01/the_final_chapter_on_teixeira.html

It’s not the best on the subject, but I couldn’t find others I’d read.

The Yankees were always on the fringes, but it was Tex and his wife’s decision that he’d like to be a Yankee, according to the story we’re given now, so Boras probably tried to draw Cash more into the picture after he got that word from his client. That’s why he stalled with Boston while he waited for Cash to get Hal to approve an acceptable offer from the club. Tex took a lesser contract in terms of years and AAV than he would have gotten from Boston or the Nationals.

Of course CC says he intends to fulfill his full contract; why wouldn’t he say that? I mean, what’s he gonna say, “Nah, man, I’m outta here after 3 years, but thanks for the option of being payed for 4 more like your boy Pavano if I get injured like he did or if I start to suck and there appears to be no market for me at above the amount you guys will pay me.”

it isnt just you

and its not just sawx fans its also mets fans and for that matter most fans besides yankee fans who sit there and literally pencil him or other into the lineup or rotation of their favorite team and when their team doesnt get that guy, it is okay whatever moving on. But as soon as ANYBODY signs with the yankees he is scum and crap and horrible and cant handle pressure. I had a mets fan at work today give me these predictions for the 2009 season;

1.CC doesnt win anywhere near 20 games, 15 if lucky
2. Tex is a slow starter and he starts slow gets booed and bats 190. all season
3. AJ gets hurt before his 4th start
4. K-Rod will only blow 2 saves and beat his own record

So no its not just you, lol, most fans of other teams are just jealous imbasils.

I mean they were ready to embrace this guy, and now they are bashing him on overthemonster.com talking even bad about his wife sawx fans are babies right now over this just go and look at all the stuff about tex or at the angels fan site, they all crying, because we got a GREAT player and they lost out,so come on people please stop hating

p.s word is that bostons off included vesting options for 9 or 10 years at $212 mill, so we didnt outbid either lol, he wanted to be a yankee
