It's a common sight in other sports, but a rare one in baseball because of the strength of the union.

Is the slow offseason finally driving me crazy? He's two years removed from a .315+ OBP or a .415+ SLG.

If he's going to be released, I think he'd have to be worth taking a flyer on. $1M plus incentives to put in the mix with Melky and Gardner.

Another aside

How does this shot get the “slowest offseason in recorded history” tag? The Yankees signed the top three free agents before the end of 2008, and resigned one of the top relievers (Marte). Expensive offseason, maybe, but hardly slow.

Yep

At least this blog is picking up activity. It too was painfully barren for months, even while we were making moves and the rest of baseball wasn’t.

Veteran minimum

I would take a flier, just as long as he would sign for the veteran’s minimum. Otherwise, let him go to another team and find a way to get back to what he once was.
