Abreu?
So with Pettitte resigned, the Yankees have completed an incredible off season of strengthening their SP and pitching flexibility. I am so excited about how the Yanks can progress now. They have excellent flexibility in using the big 3 pitchers from 2008 and hopefully the lower expectations will enable them to excel.
Now, should the Yanks just finish things by resigning Abreu? It sounds like he is down to 3 years at $10-$12 million per season. He is consistently a top 40 player in all around stats. By resigning Abreu for three years, the Yanks could unload Damon, Matsui, Nady, Swisher or any combination for some young catching prospect and reload minor league pitching?
Figuring Nady and Swisher will be traded the following lineup would be great:
Damon (LF), Jeter (SS), Abreu (RF), A-Rod (3B), Tex (1B), Cano (2B), Posada (C), Matsui (DH), Cabrera (CF)
Figure A-Jax comes up in Sept and slides in LF next year when Damon is not renewed.
Thoughts?

They let Abreu walk for a reason
His defense sucked horribly and he’s now 36 years old.
Youth, better defense, and flexibility is what Cashman is looking for these days in a position player.
No chance Abreu comes back.

I was a proponent in the beginning of bringing Bobby back...
…but now I am not so sure. If there was a way they could sign him to one year deal, I would say do it… AJax is probably still a year off and Bobby would be more than a good placeholder in the OF… that said, as ’conda pointed out- probably not going to happen as it is anti to what Cash seems to be doing.
And to that end I hope he sticks to his guns to this plans in regards to Manny. He doesn’t fit the criteria, and he’d be waaay more expen$ive. Until he signs elsewhere though, I will be nervous.

Bobby is great but....
we need to get younger and not pay 10-12 million for sub-par defense and an aging veteran.

If I have to...
…watch Bobby Abreu play the right field wall as poorly as he has for another 3 years I’m not going to be a happy camper. There’s a reason nobody is rushing to pick up his contract.
