Wilkins de la Rosa, LHP, New York Yankees
Bats: L Throws: L HT: 6-1 WT: 185 DOB: February 21, 1985

A former outfielder, de la Rosa was converted to mound work in ’07 and has been quite successful, earning a spot on the 40-man roster going into 2009. He posted excellent K/IP and H/IP ratios last year, and while his command still needs some work, Yankees officials are optimistic about his long-term outlook. De la Rosa has a 90-94 MPH fastball and has already developed an above average changeup. His slider is below average right now, but he’s athletic and has good pitching aptitude, so it’s expected the breaking ball will improve in time. I like de la Rosa’s fresh arm and ability to push the radar. Grade C+ with higher potential.

Sickles with a h/t to Chad Jennings.

Hmm this sounds familiar

Potential for a plus slider.

Can anybody guess who had the same story?

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

Lefty
Guidry or Whitey. Both threw great sliders.
Guidry was pencilled in as the centerfielder for the make up of the Pine Tar game.
Whitey was babied when he first made the bigs (though part of that was Casey holding him back for high leverage games).

Considering your age, I’m going with Ford.

Hahah

well I don’t know what to make of the age comment. I’ll say this, I was not fortunate enough to ever get to watch whitey or the gator pitch. If they both share the same back story as WDR that is even more encouraging, but the guy I was looking at was Johan Santana. Signed by houston as a CF in 1995, converted to pitcher, astros left him unprotected in the 1999 rule V draft. The marlins selected him and in a pre-arranged move traded him to the twins who then moved him to the pen. The rest is history. Lets hope our boy wilkins has a tiny bit of johan in him.
