we need ben sheets or derek lowe

i have been hearing rumors that we were going to try to use phil hughes as our fifth starter if we dont get andy pettite.i think we should forget about that and andy pettite and just go out and get either sheets or lowe. we have the money and i would rather have sheets because it is on the short term.he is a 1 or a 2 starter on any other team and he is just going to be the 4 on ours. I would give him a 2 year 30 million dollar contract.

Unless I am mistaken, I believe a team can only sign three Type A free agents in a given offseason.

At this point, it sounds as though Pettitte will inevitably sign. Slotting him in the #4 slot, Joba in the #5, and Hughes in the #6 sounds good to me.

There is no "#6" slot

We may have a long man in the pen, but that’s not a person who has a regular rotation slot, just someone who comes in to pitch 3-4 innings in relief of a starter who can’t hack it. If Hughes isn’t in the rotation, he’ll most likely be in Scranton because he needs to build up regular innings to work towards our major-league rotation when Pettitte finally retires. Aceves is our most likely long man; Dan Giese is another option.
