PREGAME NOTES:

From Pete Abe:  The Yanks have scored 2 runs or fewer a whopping 42 times this season, 3 or fewer runs 60 times this season, and 4 or fewer runs 73 times.

Sidney Ponson is a lifetime 3-4, 4.54 ERA, 1.51 WHIP in 13 games (12 starts) against the Mariners.  He is a horrifically pathetic 1-4, 7.24 ERA, 1.76 WHIP over his last 8 starts.  Please get rid of this chump already and let someone else pitch.

Ryan Rowland-Smith is a lifetime 0-0, 12.27 ERA, 2.73 WHIP in 4 relief appearances against the Yanks.

Mariners' hitters vs. Ponson can be viewed here.  Yanks' hitters vs. Rowland-Smith can be viewed here.

A good start

Ponson is throwing strikes. That’s all you can really ask for.

Lohud

Has interesting quotes from Matsui.

Says he’s down for playing first base next year, and apparently has played it before.

"Well, that kind of puts a damper on even a Yankees win."

Why didn't we hear

about that when the Yanks tried Damon at first last season? Or when they discussed 1B options the last few years?
