The Key Was

Sabathia. We blew it.

Blow what?

It didn’t make sense to trade away a ton of young talent for a rental.

It is true that we were one pitcher short

for the season. With this amazing run at the end of the season you have to start asking yourself questions.

Did we start winning because the players finally relaxed? They knew they had no shot at making the post season so it was suddenly no pressure?

A lot is going to be made of Joe Girardi. I was always of the opinion that professional athletes should just produce like they have done their entire lives. Maybe I was wrong and atmosphere does effect players more than I thought. I always took team chemistry, and atmosphere with a grain of salt. But were our players not managed well? I don’t doubt Girardi’s in game decisions, but maybe there is something else that he is missing.

If we had picked up a serviceable arm at the deadline could we have won 4 or 5 more games? Was it Paul Byrd that got traded for cash after the deadline so we could have taken him on waivers? I think he had an ERA of around 4.5 for the Red Sox.

While I agree with Cashman’s moves to protect the farm it seems like an awful waste. Here we are with the 4th best record in the AL looking in at the playoffs. Its good that I don’t have the General Managers job. It would be easier to finish in last place than be so close to the playoffs but still miss.

Crowds are won and lost and won again, but our hearts beat for the diehards.

wow

so adding him as a FA is somehow worse than trading for him?
