The only part of that ceremony that I thought was lame was having those actors playing members of the ’23 team.

They could have announced the lineup without that stuff. The crowd seemed to think it was rather lame as well.

agreed

Oh great, you found a fat guy to put on a Babe Ruth jersey? That’ll add something to the ceremony. It was just weird.

I'm surprised Mattingly didn't show up

I thought for sure he would. But at least Bob Sheppard’s voice made an appearance. Hope he’ll be back for Opening Day.

BoSox fan here

but jsut wanted to drop by to say good luck. I may not be a Yankee fan, but I still understand the importance of the Stadium.

My last sig was too long, so my new one is: He who hesitates is a mediocre ambidextrious stupid person who thinks the Rays suck and stole Joe Maddon's shoes while thinking he was at a baseball game but was at church.

I must say....

ESPN has done a great job all day with their pregame shows and now during the game.

I know a lot of people believe it’s an anti-Yankee network (an argument I believe is completely bogus and misguided), but they deserve credit for everything they’ve done today.

how ’bout those Fins??

Damn right

I didn’t think they were that bad the first two weeks. But they definitely had something to play for today.

Good for them. I don’t expect them to win 8 or 9 games, but they are capable of beating a good team.

I said they’d win 6 games at the beginning of the season – which would still give them a shot at one of the best players in the 2009 draft.

Maybe today’s game will really give that run game a boost.

indeed

i though that maybe they could pull off an ugly wins this week.. but i never could have thought of such a dominant performance on both sides of the ball.

Goodbye, Yankee Stadium.

We’ll miss you when we play the Yankees next year…

Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.

Tonight is all about the old yard

But the new yard is going to be unbelievable. Hard to believe the next home game will be in the new place.

So the pictue ESPN is using on Gamecast of Adam jones

is god awful. He’s got his eyes closed!

Pettitte didn't look good

But it hardly matters now as long as the pen holds the lead.

in your dreams, you'll have to get by us first

goodbye old girl. i’ll always regret never making it to a game, but i’ll never forget the stories my grandpa & uncle told me of the men who roamed your hollowed grounds.

i may bleed Cardinal Red, but my eye’s are Yankee blue. thanks for the memories old girl, here’s hoping your ghost won’t get lost when it’s time to move next door.

I'm going to go try to find a puppy and kick it. - Brad Thompson AND THAT'S A WINNER!

Good stuff

Seems like the idea of having actors play Yankee legends was received by everyone as extremely lame.

Outside of the absence of Mattingly, that was the only whiff during the entire ceremony.

by anaconda on Sep 22, 2008 8:19 AM EDT up reply actions

Roger Clemens?

Look, I know it’s a rocky subject.

But he did alot of great things in pinstripes, did he not?

How can he not be a part of that ceremony? At least a part of the video package!
