Alfredo Acevas?

I just wrote up a quick thing on Alfredo Aveces, but it's pretty bare and all I have are a few numbers. This was about all I gathered:

He uses the fastball and cutter the most, throwing those pitches 51.7% and 20.5% of the time in his limited major-league innings. Aveces uses his offspeed pitches much less, featuring his changeup 16.1% of the time and his curveball 11.7% of the time.

From those who have seen him pitch, what can us Sox fans expect tonight? I'll confess I've never heard of Aveces until about 45 minutes ago. Any comments, insight, etc. would be appreciated just so I can get a better handle of what to expect tonight.

Truthfully....

most Yankee fans don’t know much about him either. He spent most of the summer in the minors and made his debut a couple of weeks ago.

The thing about Aceves is that he doesn’t have dominating stuff, but he knows how to pitch. He’ll throw any pitch at any time and has very, very good command.

The Yanks signed him over the offseason from the Mexican League so that help to answer why fans of other teams have never heard of him.

He strikes me ...

as kind of an El Duque-type pitcher. He’s got no fear, moxie and and what appears to be an uncanny ability to battle and win. I like what I’m seeing. He might make a nice backend starter, or worthy trade fodder for a young centerfielder.

Well, I was impressed...

He pretty much pitched like anaconda said…Acevas looked like he flat-out knew how to pitch.

A few people said he reminded them of a Shaun Marcum or Nick Blackburn, and if that’s the case, you guys got a pretty good pitcher on your hands.

Will...I...be...able...to...play...softball...tomorrow?
Oh, no, Mr. Scioscia. At this time tomorrow, you'll barely be able to breathe.

The Mexican Gangster!

This dude’s got a lot of potential! His stuff is great and he knows how to use it correctly. He really has a good grasp of what he can get done and he’s super confident! Two things you need most as a young pitcher. Hopefully he will stay in the Yankee organization for a while. I really hope we don’t dish him out like we have been. We need all the pitching we can get and he seems to know what he’s doing!
