PREGAME NOTES:

Derek Jeter's next base hit on this homestand will make him the all-time leader in Yankee Stadium history.

Mark Buehrle is a lifetime 1-5, 6.58 ERA, 1.66 WHIP in 7 starts against the Yanks.  He is 0-3, 16.36 ERA, 2.90 WHIP over his last 3 starts against them since 2004.

Afredo Aceves has obviously never faced the White Sox or any of their hitters.

Yanks' hitters vs. Buehrle can be viewed here.

CANO BENCHED:  It's been a long time coming, but Robinson Cano has officially been benched for tonight's game for his lack of hustle displayed yesterday.

One can only speculate if Girardi had done this earlier in the season if it would have made any difference with Cano's horrific season.

hey gang

nice bunt

Hustle is really overrated

Sorry, but it is.

The batter can control whether or not he swings at the ball. Once it leaves his bat, he has no control….. that’s called Balls in Play Average.

This year, Cano’s BIPA is about 45 points lower than his career average up to this point.

Hustle is overrated?

Tell that to Joe DiMaggio and Jeter. The fact of the matter is that it doesn’t take an ounce of talent to hustle – yet too many major leaguers don’t always do it.

i agree that he's been

rather unlucky at the plate this year. but he does have too frequent lapses in hustle.

but your point is valid. Manny and Ortiz almost never hustle, yet carried Boston to two titles. otoh, as fans, we naturally should want every player to hustle his ass off. they’re playing a kid’s game for a king’s ransom.
