PREGAME NOTES:

Since the Yanks were just three games back of the division lead and just one game back of the Wild Card on July 26, the Yanks are just 15-19 and their staff has compiled a horrific 5.64 ERA.

Sidney Ponson is a lifetime 4-4, 5.92 ERA, 1.54 WHIP in 8 starts against the Tigers.  He is 3-4, 5.64 ERA, 1.66 WHIP in his 11 starts as a Yankee this season.

Justin Verlander is a lifetime 2-0, 4.67 ERA, 1.38 WHIP in 3 starts against the Yanks.  He is just 2-5, 6.47 ERA, 1.57 WHIP over his last 7 starts on the season.

Tigers' hitters vs. Ponson can be viewed here.  Yanks' hitters vs. Verlander can be viewed here.

Good grief, Ponson,

you have eleven runs of support…eat some innings and save the bullpen. Sheesh.

It's sad that it has to be said...

…but those are HUGE RBIs by Jeter.

Every win gets us closer to Wildcard...

Real happy they won but still on longshot for the playoffs…Its ashame their starting pitching is so horrendous..Ponson? ughhh. I still have faith. Twins not playing great. Could leapfrog them and Boston for wildcard with a good run. Just bet them +15 to 1 to make the playoffs at this site:

Seems like a steal to be able to bet them at that price. Still alot of time. Opinions?
