PREGAME NOTES:
The Yanks are 4-9 in Anaheim since the 2005 season (which does not include a postseason record of 1-2 during the 2005 ALDS).
Ian Kennedy has never faced the Angels or any of their hitters. He was dealing over his last four starts for Scranton (27.0 IP, 14 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 20 K -- 1.33 ERA, 0.70 WHIP).
Jered Weaver is a lifetime 2-1, 5.63 ERA, 1.56 WHIP in three starts against the Yanks. He is 4-4, 3.69 ERA, 1.13 WHIP in 10 starts at home this season.
Yanks' hitters vs. Weaver can be viewed here.
BRITTON OPTIONED: No surprise but Chris Britton has been sent back down to Scranton for the 199th time this season to make room on the roster for Ian Kennedy.
A-ROD SLUMPING: The four-game series in Arlington was a series to forget for A-Rod after struggling to go 0-for-15 with four GIDP and four strikeouts. He is also 0-for-9 with RISP and 3-for-25 (.120) overall during the month of August.
JOBA'S OPTIMISM: Most of you have now heard the earlier reports about Joba and his optimism that he'll be back on the mound before September 1.
Now it's not my intent to downplay the encouraging news because it does indeed sound like the injury he suffered on Monday night is very minor and won't be a long term problem for him.
But I'm not as optimistic about Joba's impending return as he is. The guy is a professional athlete and is as competitive as anyone on the team - so I would expect nothing less than a fierce determination to get back on that mound ASAP to help this team get back to the postseason.
However, Joba is not a doctor and will not be making the final decision on this matter. You can be sure that Joba will not set foot on a mound again this season until the Yankee brass is certain that he is 100% healthy.
If that doesn't happen until October, so be it. Playoffs be damned.

Knee still bothering him a bit
He says he still can’t squat, so that’s a problem. Perhaps he’ll be out there tomorrow.

Hope the White Sox don't let go of that game

I’m on Gameday…what’s Kennedy look like? Nerves?
by emille2 on Aug 8, 2008 10:26 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Maybe a little bit
He was aggressive in the zone to the first three hitters, but not so much after that.

Just saw the video of Hunter
Damon should’ve caught that

How does IPK look?
he getting squeezed or what?
by seanp23 on Aug 8, 2008 10:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
No, he's not getting squeezed
At least I don’t think so.

Here's the thing about Kennedy
If he’s going to get hammered – then let him get hammered. At this point, the Yanks need to figure out exactly how Kennedy fits into their plans for next season and they really don’t have any other options in the minors right now.
Guys like Rasner and Giese are not the future of the Yanks. Kennedy and Hughes is – so let them pitch to major league hitters and figure things out.
That can only help them to prepare for 2009.
I’ve always viewed 2008 as a season of transition, so maybe it’s easier for me to look at the big picture than some Yankee fans.

Ah, damn, I really don't like it when a ground-rule double keeps a run from scoring. =[

just about to ask if that was the case

Cano
Always swings on the first pitch!!!! I hate that!

IPK
good job, right down the middle.

I was definitely in favor of bringing Kennedy up, but I don’t think I am any more

IPK
should have traded him for Santana.
by BillyBobisdrunk on Aug 8, 2008 11:18 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It would have taken a lot more than Kennedy for Santana
A deal for Santana had to include Wang or Hughes plus other young arms.
by anaconda on Aug 8, 2008 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
bullshit
Look what the Mets gave up for Santana.
by BillyBobisdrunk on Aug 8, 2008 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Bullshit yourself
Cashman himself went on M&MD back in March and said that Hughes or Wang had to be in the deal to get Santana.
That is absolutely true. They got a lot less from the Mets than they asked for from the Yanks.

Weren't they close
By including Melky? Hank just gave the Twins a wacky deadline ultimatum. I still would have traded Melky and Hughes for Santana. Sure thing for an OK fielder and a prospect that may never turn out.

Guess we know he's not the answer for sure now

Cashman should release him as soon as girardi takes him out.

I don't want to see him put on that uni ever again

Ive been reading your comments for a while
you have literally no idea what you’re talking about.

He’s alright, I say some unreasonable things. It’s been a frustrating season.

ok, my bad
but I come here to get away from the WFAN caller types and it seems like they are infiltrating.
by seanp23 on Aug 8, 2008 11:40 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know
I can’t stand listening to the FAN myself. The only time listen to that station is when Girardi or Sweeny Murti is a guest.
M&MD are just plain moronic and don’t have any idea what they’re talking about.

Lets give the kid a break here...
LAA is the best team in the American league, and he made a lot of good pitches that inning. 3-4 of those hits were bleeders & bloopers. He’s had what, 10-11 MLB starts? Not everybody is Joba…

This was precisely the reason why I didn't think
the Yanks wanted Kennedy to pitch against the Angels. Not an ideal team to face your first game back, especially with the added pressure of pitching near his home.
by anaconda on Aug 8, 2008 11:26 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He's probably not...
the answer this year. I’m not sure that there is an answer this year though… this is just something we’re going to have to live with if we want to have a strong contender for years to come.

Vlad is a beast...
...but I thought Nady should/may have caught that one.

Hey you gotta admit though Fella's
If we could have traded Kennedy & Cabrera for Santana that would have been colossal
by MedFan on Aug 8, 2008 11:44 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Um, no....
It would have taken Hughes or Wang plus other talent. Kennedy and Melky would not have gotten Santana. Not even close.
by anaconda on Aug 8, 2008 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Come on man you gotta admit that would have been fleecing of the decade
by MedFan on Aug 8, 2008 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, if MIN was dumb enough to take that deal
But I guess they weren’t because they wanted Hughes or Wang to be the centerpiece of any deal for Santana.

Nope this isnt last we will have heard of IPK
I am sure next spring training we will see a special on ESPN about IPK finding himself as a pitcher. And we will march him out there against Boston on Sunday Night Baseball just to see him get his a$$ handed to him.

by MedFan on Aug 8, 2008 11:54 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Rasner got shelled his last start.
it was against the angels.

Suprized
It amazes me that the yankees could take so many injuries and yet still be included in the playoff race. As frustrating as it is to not see this team flourishing, its still an acomplishment to have survived their injuries.
Think about the players they lost for a moment before someone says something stupid back to me.
