Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

NO MeLK MAN

I think it was time for Melky to have some time off the past few games.  Girardi and the Yanks may want to think about a more permanent time away for the milk man.  I was excited at one time for some youth in the lineup, which I still am for.  Someone took chances on Jeter and Bernie for example when they were young.  I don't see any improvement with Melky Cabrerra and unsure as to why Girardi is married to the idea of having him in the lineup daily.  I believe he has had his chance to shine.  I was actually suprised that he was not dealt during the recent trading time.  He doesn't hit.  He doesn't go to left field with pitches and always tries to jerk them over the short porch in right.  The speed he does possess is not utilized due to his propensity for flying out.  He is a liability injury wise to himself when on the bases.  We need no other injuries at this point in the season.  In my opinion he is an average outfielder.  I guess the tone of this post suggests that I am not a big fan of Melky and wonder why the Yankees are.

To see why the Yanks are Melky fans

Watch Matsui or Duncan field. Then watch Christian and Gardner hit.

These guys make Melky look good. Try to compare him with available options, not your memories of Mantle, Di Maggio or Williams.

He’s young. He has been struggling, but he will probablt bounce back and be a big leaguer for 10 years or so.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

Big Leaguer, yes. But...

a quality big leaguer, I’m not so sure. I like Melky, but he BA, SLG, OBP each of the last three seasons. It’s been my experience that a pitcher needs 300 innings of MLB experience before a reasonable assessment can be made. For a hitter it’s 600 at-bats. Melky has had 1412—more than double the amount, and he’s trending south.

A winning team must be strong up the middle, and we are—defensively at least. But offensively we need a centerfielder who can hit. With each passing day it’s becoming obvious to me that Melky simply isn’t the answer.
