To add insult to injury...

... literally. Joba went down in the 5th inning with a 'stiff shoulder', four innings before Damaso Marte blew the game in glorious fashion. Don't let the walkoff grand slam get you down - it's exciting for Texas, but it's essentially the same as a walk or single in that situation.

That three-run Michael Young shot should never have happened. Ian Kinsler should have been ruled out for touching a ball in play. From the official rule book,

"6.05

A batter is out when -

(g) a fair ball touches him before touching a fielder."

'Balking' Bob Davidson overturned the homeplate ump's original call that it was put into play. In all honesty, it should not have been the double play the Yanks turned, but Kinsler should have been called out anyway.

Girardi obviously didn't want to use Mo, if at all possible. Being on the road, bringing Mo into the 9th in a tie game would have meant at least two innings for him.

Man, does the ball carry to right field in that park or what? All three Texas homers seemed like they were relatively routine flyballs.

Blame Texas

Joba clearly wasn't his normal self. Was it the heat, was it his shoulder or was it just not his night? Watching Joba go down was eerily reminiscent of last May 1, when Phil Hughes tore his hamstring in the 7th inning of a no-hitter in the same ballpark. And then when he grabbed his shoulder it just ruined my night. That's the worst possible place a pitcher can suffer an injury.

Both the Rays and the Sox lost. This is a game the Yanks should have won. Joba and Marte wasted homeruns from Giambi, Robbie and (another clutch shot from) the X-Man.

(Keep your fingers crossed for Joba.)

Update from the postgame show:

Girardi said they'll run tests on Joba tomorrow but he doesn't think it's serious. They believe it's muscular. There's a 'good chance' he'll miss his next start but they're optimistic beyond that. Joba said it was not from the play where he ducked Pudge's throw to second.

Girardi said Mo was unavailable tonight.

Joba and Damaso

What do you really think are Joba’s prospects? How injured is he? Good write up on Damaso blowing the game. Couldn’t agree more. Keep writing!!

Yeah, lets blame Texas, Kinsler, Young, Byrd, Etc.,Etc.

Lets not blame the Yankees, you guys are amazing, never give the other team any credit for being good, fact is you guys have no clue how good the Ranger Offense is, they beat the yanks 2 out of 3 games earlier this year in NY and surprise, that was with pitching, if the Rangers ever get pitching the yanks or any other team would have no chance.

Are you going to make the same argument every time the Yanks lose to the Rangers? You did the very same thing about a month ago.

The truth of the matter is that – the Yanks blew that game last night. Marte walked the bases loaded and got hammered. That’s the bottom line.

And the Rangers will never get any decent pitching until they start developing their own and start winning – but that traded away onee kid who has decent shot at a Cy Young in the NL. Winning will attract free agent pitchers.

I cannot even recall the last time the Rangers had decent pitching. They’ve always been an offensive-oriented club – even when they made the postseason a couple of times in the 90s.

in case you couldn't tell

i was being sarcastic about the ‘Blame Texas’ part. obviously crossing the border of Texas isn’t causing our pitchers to get injured.
i dont know what it is, but we’ve lost our top 2 pitching prospects in consecutive years in Arlington, and our staff ace over in Houston. Texas just hasn’t been kind in terms of injuries since last May.

last time rangers had really good pitching

1981 i believe it was and they led the AL in ERA, other than that it would have to be the 3 playoff years of 96,98 and 99 they do have one of the best farm systems now for young arms, but most are 2 to 3 years away, it looked like the Yankees were going to start building from within, but they are back to rent a players it seems., i will say this i thought they made the best moves at the trade deadline.
