Why is Double Play-Rod playing?

Girardi should show some balls and bench him.

by cph on Aug 27, 2008 6:55 PM EDT   0 recs

Whats up with yall and the rest of the Sox fans this series?

Why is no one on?

Don't question my choice of teams, or I will have to go all troll on you.

What? MFY?

Would you rather us type out the whole thing?

Yes, actually.

It does a nice job of demonstrating more than a few stereotypes of the Red Sox fanbase.

by dzawaki on Aug 27, 2008 8:07 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

What would those stereotypes be?

That we can’t type like “normal people”, that we type like teenage kids on cell phones?
Seriously, what are those stereotypes, Mother F****** Yankees fan? (I try not to curse, raised properly)

Don't question my choice of teams, or I will have to go all troll on you.

I wasn't aware that there were stereotypes about baseball fans and typing.

It does seem strange to me that Red Sox fans would continue to use expletives to refer to the Yankees after 2004 and 2007. It betrays a bitterness that Red Sox fans have supposedly gotten over.

Red Sox Lover and Yankee Hater go hand in hand don't cha know?

You can’t be the first without being the other… And it’s a way to remind people of times when things weren’t so great… I was joking about the typing stereotypes…

And I appreciate that concept.

But those two roles aren’t necessarily equal. So why aren’t the “MFY” just the Yankees, particularly these days?

Still root against the Yankees unless it helps the Sox, and even then it would have to be an emergency...

Early this season I was kinda rooting for ya’ll against the Rays, but then I reconsidered. Still gotta hate the Yanks, for now. If ya’ll could help by beating the Rays a couple of times, the hate might temporarily come down. For now, too much history. i.e. Bucky F****** Dent!!!!

Turning on A-Rod seems a little pointless now, huh?

by Charger567 on Aug 27, 2008 8:30 PM EDT   0 recs

Conspiracy Theory:

MLB stops deal of Arod to Boston, allows deal to NYY. Pays him under the table to be uncluctch. Salary money for Yanks tied up in Arod, they can’t let him play his best position, and he is secretly working against his own team. Seems like a good way to bring the Yanks back to league average, no?

by bs.uf15bosox9bears23 on Aug 27, 2008 8:39 PM EDT   0 recs

so he's responsible tonight

but he should not be held responsible for lack of production last night?

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 9:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Just pointing out the idiocy.

Even when he does what hes supposed to, he cant win.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 9:02 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

he gets a bigger paycheck

he’s held to hire standards

I think some people give him a free pass because he’s supposedly the “best” player in the league when in fact he’s not even the best at anything…not the best 3B, not the strongest arm for a 3B, not the #1 choice to be at bat in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs…and that’s not what I say it’s what the pundits say. He’s a good player, all-around, but didn’t you hear Sutcliffe at the beginning of the broadcast…there’s something wrong with him…why would Texas be so ecstatic to get rid of him?

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 9:05 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Haha

I will not defer to the likes of Sutcliffe an Steve Phillips, thanks. He is probably still the best shortstop in the game, but guess what? Mr Captain has to play shortstop, even though he knows A-rod is better. What does Arod do? Learns a new position.

It is unfortunate that arod is not “the best” at your completely arbitrary distinctions, but he is still the most talented baseball player.

Texas is a shit franchise. They gave him an absurd contract that they could not pay.

The guy had an historic season last year, was one of the best players in the league in “clutch” situations. Guys go through slumps, it happens. Even to the best, most talented and highest paid players.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 9:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i'll give you that all around - I said that

but let’s just say a driver wins the Sprint Cup because he finished in the top 5 every race, but failed to win an actual race…imo there’s a problem with that – he’s not even a feared hitter, definitely not this season. He’ll never be treated the way Bonds was

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 9:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Barry Bonds had the sam rep!

He eventually came up big.

And arod absolutely is feared. He gets in trouble when he expands the zone because they wont pitch to him.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 9:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

so your basically saying

he’s not a team player. He’s worried about his own numbers b/c in order to get them he has to hit and in turn expand the zone instead of taking walk and obviously he rarely will punch one to right field. Look he’s held to higher expectations because he’s earned it. Okay I get it, you’re great…now do something great, that’s all anyone asks of him…does he really wanna go down in history as this amazing player who only won personal awards and not anything else? The greatest always found a way to transcend the game and he has yet to do that and in no way am I saying he can’t, I just hope he does

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 9:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Infield single to third

Wow way to transcend that play.

by MedFan on Aug 27, 2008 9:39 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Do you really think

he would subject himself to all the bs of people like you booing him if he didnt want to win?

He could just rack up stats and be the best player on a shitty team. He came here and moved positions to win. Meanwhile Jeter ostracized him and made his first couple of years real awkward. Whats more team oriented?

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 9:43 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

the guy was frinning last night when he was being booed

they’ve done anything but win since he’s been there (no WS appearances), he’s a good player, but he’s not extraordinary. Earlier I said he’s not a feared hitter, now that may be embellishing a little, but he hits mistakes pitchers make. He doesn’t have stellar numbers against most dominating pitchers

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 9:49 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Prove it.

Show me stats against “dominating pitchers.” You cant just say ridiculous shit.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 9:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

2-20 against Kazmir
1-11 Matsusaka

those are just two

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 10:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yea you right Matsusaka's not 15-2 with a 2.98 era this season

and oh Kazmir’s having an off season and now you’re trying to imply he’s not any good anymore? well you know who else is having an off season?

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 10:06 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yu said "dominating" pitchers

You’ve listed good pitchers. Check out his numbers against halladay, Burnett, Pedro and Clemens in their prime.

Those are dominating pitchers.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 10:09 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm sorry

he said dominating pitchers. Pedro and Roger come to mind. I didnt make up the arbitrary category-your buddy did.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 10:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yea I already checked

they’re good against Hallady, who is current and really the only dominant pitcher out of those, although I do like Burnett, they’re even decent against Beckett, which tells me that he’s going up to bat with the team in mind, playing a little smaller ball, not being only concerned with himself

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 10:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

plus

I would hope his numbers were good in the ancient past against those guys, or I’d be wondering how in the world did he get this contract and the one before that

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 10:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

you said:

He doesn’t have stellar numbers against most dominating pitchers

I just gave you arguably the two most dominating pitchers of our generation and hes got great numbers against them.

You cant keep changing the rules:
Oh thats in the past…blah blah blah. Numbers are numbers.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 10:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

most means the majority

not every single one, basically trends start to develop over time, but even then if you were to look at a graph of almost anything there are spikes here and there

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 10:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

and on the numbers note

the yankees shouldn’t be 7 games out, that’s why they play the games

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 10:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

A-Rod played the games

And in the prime of the two most dominant pitchers of his era, he owned them. There is no arguing that.

You argument is: Arod cant come up big.
Proof: Look at his numbers against “most dominating pitchers.”

Me: Pedro, Clemens. THE most dominating pitchers. Arod came up big often against them.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 10:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

okay so he played the front 9 well and made the cut

and has decided to have a good year every other year on the back 9. Sure hope he doesn’t go to the HOF w/o any championships

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 10:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It is impossible to win an argument

against a person who keeps switching the argument.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 10:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

look I get it

Its easy to bash arod. You hear it on the radio all day. But just think about it every once in a while. He’s an unbelievable player. Can you imagine this lineup without him in it? Its a joke.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 10:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't live in NY

I don’t hear the radio up there, it’s just what I see…I told you earlier, he earned his bashings…people don’t bash terrible players….I just want to see him play up to what he is capable of, which includes consistency, I know he can do it, seen it before.

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 10:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

and in consistency

that means higher then his what .250 clip this season with RISP. He’s def. capable of it, but perhaps that number would be different if Matsui was hitting behind him all season

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 10:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I would assume

his numbers spiked when Giambi was real hot that little period, but I don’t have them that’s just a guess

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 10:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

So would you say

that in a year when Jorge Posada, Robinson Cano, Jason Giambi and Hideki Matsui are in the lineup and mashing the ball, Arod would have an awesome year?

Like, maybe, last year?

And in a year when Matsui is absent, Jorge is absent, Giambi is hot and cold, Cano for the majority of the season was off, Arod would have a less than stellar season? (even though he is still top 5 in HRs, batting over .300 with an OPS+ of 157?)

Like, maybe, this year?

Shocking.

by seanp23 on Aug 27, 2008 10:50 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

2-16 E. Santana

We have two options for next year.

Either not bringing Bobby back or not bringing the right field wall back. What do you think?

Break Out The Oreos: not exactly a Yankee blog.

by dzawaki on Aug 27, 2008 9:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

who knows

but if the pitching comes through (cough, cough, Sabathia), it should be lights out, IF Girardi doesn’t manage them out of the season

by emille2 on Aug 27, 2008 9:42 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

This is the best thing that could happen to this team.

They really need to get there focus back in the offseason. They also need to get a lot younger.

by MedFan on Aug 27, 2008 9:46 PM EDT   0 recs

Cashman

Nice job taking a nap and letting Byrd sail right through waivers to Boston.

It’s not like we could use a starting pitcher who is familiar with the 6th inning. It’s not like Boston would be screwed if they didn’t get him.

Byrd ain’t Cy Young, but he’d be the Yanks # 3 starter and Boston would have less wins without him on their team.

GRRRRRRRRR……..

"Well, that kind of puts a damper on even a Yankees win."
-- Phil Rizzuto after hearing about the Pope's death

by matthaggs on Aug 27, 2008 9:53 PM EDT   0 recs

At this point

I hope Boston blows the crap out of this team personally this is really embarresing. This is what 200+ million dollars buys you wow.

by MedFan on Aug 27, 2008 9:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

personally

it’s almost a relief to be taken out of my misery.

now i can focus on the Giants defending their championship and the Knicks potentially winning more than 25 games.

by Clutch like Leyritz on Aug 27, 2008 10:05 PM EDT   0 recs

18-1!

makes me feel a bit better. maybe i’ll pop in the Giants 2007 DVD.
