Derek Jeter

Wow what an amazing accomplishment who think he can break Pete Roses hit record

by MedFan on Aug 22, 2008 7:18 PM EDT   0 recs

great range by cano there
even the orioles commentators are chirping him

jeterfan21

I am watching the game at work on ESPN

Can we put Ken Singleton

in the Announcers’ Old Folks Home, please? This guy has no clue what’s going on anymore. He just said the Yankees can’t hit cuz CMW got hurt. Let’s retire this old fogie immediately so I don’t have to listen to Grandpa gibber on about how they used to do things in 1968.

Thank you.

by runbrettrun on Aug 22, 2008 7:41 PM EDT   0 recs

Actually...

I couldn’t disagree with you more. I like Singleton. In fact, he’s the best play-by-play announcer they’ve got because Michael Kay sucks.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 7:43 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

He usually does color commentary

and I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. I like my announcers knowledgeable and entertaining. he is neither, IMO. He too often relies upon conventional wisdom without actually knowing what’s happening.

Agreed on Kay, though. With our world-class organization, why can’t we have world-class announcers?

by runbrettrun on Aug 22, 2008 7:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

He's the top play-by-play guy when Kay has the series off

I’ve never had a problem with Singleton. The only YES broadcaster I don’t like is Kay.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 7:58 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Kay ain't so bad...

I watch games on MLB.TV so I get to hear everybody else’s commentators as well and there are some absolutely dreadful teams out there. Like the two jokers they have for the Orioles tonight.

by Pride O' Ireland on Aug 22, 2008 8:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

In Toronto, I’m getting the Orioles commentators and they are SOOO much worse than Kay and Singleton. The Twins ones are really bad too

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 8:22 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I think the White Sox might have the worst but the Angel’s color guy is by far the most annoying.

by Pride O' Ireland on Aug 22, 2008 8:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

And I live in Toronto… those commentators are probably the worst
They know absolutely nothing about the game

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 8:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

We definitely agree on the Sox announcers

The WORST in baseball. And it’s not even close.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 8:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

If you're talking about Thorne and Palmer

We couldn’t disagree more. I think that combo might be the best tandem of any Yankee opponent.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 8:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Thorne has been known to make some rediculous claims.

It seems like at least once a game he says something that makes me say, “What the hell is he talking about?”

by Pride O' Ireland on Aug 22, 2008 8:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Agreed

One time was when he and Palmer started talking about Curt Schilling’s blog. He then started talking about the world series incident with the bloody sock and talked about how it was for PR and was just painted

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 8:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I've always liked Thorne

In fact, Thorne had some of the best home run calls during the Yanks’ playoff run in the late 90s and early 2000s.

You would’ve thought he was the Yankee announcer with the enthusiasm in his voice when Tino Martinez and Scott Brosius hit those dingers in the 2001 World Series.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 8:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I don’t mind listening to him but I’m much too young to remember home run calls back then.

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 8:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I will say that I used to like him a lot more.

It seems like ever since the aforementioned bloody sock incident, he has started going senile or something.

by Pride O' Ireland on Aug 22, 2008 8:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Predictions on Jeter's

career hit total, when all’s said and done???

I’ll say – 2,958.

by runbrettrun on Aug 22, 2008 7:57 PM EDT   0 recs

I am so tired of the 300 strike em out throw em outs we’ve gone into this year.
The EXACT same thing happened a week ago but what ever idiot calls this never seems to learn

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 7:59 PM EDT   0 recs

According to Singleton

I guess it would be hard to manage with so many injuries. Too much pressure, like he said about the Yank hitters. Once everyone’s healthy, Girardi will manage great.

by runbrettrun on Aug 22, 2008 8:05 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I highly doubt that

Everyone acts like we have the worst team without injuries but we’re clearly one of the top teams regardless. All our useless manager does is overmanage the lineup, call hit and runs every inning, mismanage the bullpen, and whine about how the offence isn’t producing while he played Sexson, Christian, and Melky in the same game.

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 8:09 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

When does Girardi ever whine?

You must be thinking of someone else. Girardi is a lot of things, but he doesn’t whine.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 8:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I saw him on a twins broadcast talking about how there’s nothing he can do because the player’s cant produce offensively

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 8:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yes, i totally agree with “worst manager ever”
i’ve never seen our team waste this many outs

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 8:03 PM EDT   0 recs

they should speak up then

he needs to change like Coughlin did, the world saw what happened for the Giants, or he needs to go…and since according to anaconda, which is the most probable and reasonable outcome, they won’t fire him, but they should imo

by emille2 on Aug 22, 2008 8:08 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i’m not saying he’s a hard ass like Coughlin, just that the players didn’t respond to him originally

by emille2 on Aug 22, 2008 8:09 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

To be a hard ass like Coughlin

you have to have a young team.

This is obviously a veteran team, especially the position players. They don’t respond to that stuff as well because they’ve seen it all.

That was one of the primary reasons I wanted Mattingly to be the new manager. But Cashman and Hal wanted Girardi and they aren’t going to fire him anytime soon.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 8:17 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

or when they get behind too, but they haven't been playing all year

it’s like they go up to bat expecting BP fastballs.

by emille2 on Aug 22, 2008 8:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It'll be interesting

to see how they clean house in the offseason. I’m think T-Rex is gonna get a massive deal from us, for starters.

by runbrettrun on Aug 22, 2008 8:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

So who told Hambone aka Giambi

To try and stretch out that single.

by MedFan on Aug 22, 2008 8:30 PM EDT   0 recs

I read on one blog they think they got Pudge just to protect Molina for next year

can’t argue with the way he calls a game and he will hit once in a while so I could see some truth in that

by emille2 on Aug 22, 2008 8:33 PM EDT   0 recs

At this point...

Pudge should be spelling Molina, not the other way around.

by Pride O' Ireland on Aug 22, 2008 8:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Obviously

Jose Molina should be our new clean-up hitter. Move A-Roid to the 8 hole, like Torre did in the playoffs.

by runbrettrun on Aug 22, 2008 8:35 PM EDT   0 recs

We need to win this game, Radhames Liz is the worst pitcher we’ve faced all year.

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 8:38 PM EDT   0 recs

Rodriguez

looks like he’s just trying to pad his mediocre numbers every at bat lately

by emille2 on Aug 22, 2008 8:42 PM EDT   0 recs

Hey you remeber he gets paid 27 mill a year to do that too.

Well at least this offseason Derek & AROD can go chase women together in Europe.

by MedFan on Aug 22, 2008 8:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

He looks like he’s pretty frustrated… he’ll turn it around… the guy is a champ

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 8:45 PM EDT   0 recs

what does that matter?

Ernie Banks never played in a World Series and that certainly doesn’t diminish his status as one of the all-time greats.

By contrast, Luis Sojo has three rings and he was nothing more than a backup infielder.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 8:49 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

A champ doesn’t slap balls out of infielders hands, nor does a champ yell behind an infielders back during a pop up…he has all of the qualities of a great player, IMO he plays the game all the wrong ways

by emille2 on Aug 22, 2008 8:52 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, that's your opinion

But he’s a Yankee for life whether we fans like him or not.

He’s going to break the HR record in pinstripes, retire in pinstripes, and wear a Yankee cap to the Hall of Fame.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 8:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I like him

there’s no doubt about that, just think there’s still a little maturation process he still needs to go though in order to reach his full potential i.e. become more of a team player. Pretty much the same deal for Cano even though he’s much younger

by emille2 on Aug 22, 2008 8:58 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah...

but the difference is A-Rod has reached his potential. He’s considered the best player in the game, so it would be tough to argue that he hasn’t done that.

I’m not so sure Cano will ever do that. Even the staunchest Cano supporter would argue that he doesn’t come to play everyday and often lacks focus.

By contrast, nobody works on his game harder than A-Rod.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 9:04 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

should work on hitting to right field

by emille2 on Aug 22, 2008 9:06 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Agreed

A-Rod has definitely made it pretty well. I support Cano being the second baseman because I think he has a huge upside and that he might be having a down year… But, I definitely acknowledge that some games, he might as well not even come up to the plate at all. He needs some sort of disciplined coach who gets his focus straight and I know he’s one of the biggest free swingers in the game, but someone needs to tell him that it’s okay to wait a little bit. Stuff like that could actually get him going and really benefit him

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 9:17 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

So this means

we can never criticize him?

Personally, I think he’s a cancer that will prevent the Yanks from winning a WS while he’s on the team.

by runbrettrun on Aug 22, 2008 9:43 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Never said that

He’s not a cancer. Only the fans who hate him think he’s a cancer.

I’m sure his teammates don’t feel that way.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 9:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't think so...

Texas was all to happy to get him outta there, and the Mets didn’t want him in free agency. It’s common knowledge most of the players hate him, and think he’s a phony, not to mention a choker.

by runbrettrun on Aug 22, 2008 9:47 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Name me the Yankee players who hate A-Rod. Show me proof. That’s just your speculation – not based on fact.

And he was traded from Texas because of his contract. It didn’t allow them to address other needs – like pitching. That’s something they still haven’t figured out and it’s been 4 years since they traded him.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 9:50 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Here's some

Proof, Proof,Proof.

His contract is part of him…if he wasn’t paid like the best player of all times, people would cut him some slack. And the players know it too – if you’re gonna make $32M per year, you better be damn sure not to be a choker. So, I’m sure that’s what lies behind the players’ hatred of him.

by runbrettrun on Aug 22, 2008 10:03 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Who cares whether his teammates like him?
The guy is the opposite of a cancer… he’s a consistent producer who, despite not hitting with RISP and struggling in the playoffs, has been a key to us even getting to the playoffs and winning as many games as we have. Do you know how much pressure must be on the guy to perform perfectly by fans like you? He’s done a fine job and it’s definitely not him that’s preventing this team of unmotivated team of veterans from winning the World Series

by jeterfan21 on Aug 22, 2008 9:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

To be honest

It’s been the Yankee starting pitching that has prohibited this team from advancing past the ALDS in recent years.

It has been downright atrocious.

by anaconda on Aug 22, 2008 10:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Honestly

one guy can ruin a team’s cohesiveness. Especially when you’re supposed to be the best player ever and you hit .250 w/ RISP, and around the same in Late & Close situations.
