Why Carl Povano is the man to start Saturday!

It is the obvious choice in the circumstances, even though Pete A. doesn't like it.  I think is LoHud blog is usually right on but not this time.

"Is anybody else surprised that the Yankees are using Carl Pavano tomorrow? Wouldn’t it benefit the long-term interests of the organization to give major-league innings to Phil Hughes instead of a player they can’t wait to get rid of?

The worst part? After four years without a pulse, Pavano gets to audition for a job next season at the expense of the Yankees. Why not just release him at this point and move on?"

Facts are these; (IMO)

the game means nothing, it's been wait till next year for a week or two.

Hughes isn't ready, he struggled last time out.  He also has had a tough year, and rushing him into a big league shelling doesn't make sense.

IPK  isn't ready, he struggled last time out.  He also has had a tough year, and rushing him into a big league shelling doesn't make sense. I am worried about his self confidence and long term prospects.

I hate Kei Igawa more than Pavano.

Other prospects are not ready for an emergency start.  This is where trading Ohlendorf and Karstens and McCutchen has hurt.

Paano might not be ready and could set his recovery back, but I don't care.

We have wasted a lot of money on the guy but results from Tommy John surgery are frequently good.  Might as well give it a shot.  we do have a decision to make here (we hold an option on him for next year).  If he's going to be the next coming of Cy Young let's try to find out now.

So there I've said it.  Give the ball to Pavano.  I give dispensation to any true blue Yankee fans who can't stand to watch.

I think my wife said it best about Pavano:

“Is he still on the team?”

I wonder

if we can get any kind of prospect for him right now.

Dude

We’re not trading big league ready pitchers for prospects right now. We might go the other way.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)
