A win would have been nice
It would be nice if Johnny Damon remembered how to catch.
It would be nice if Arod didn't look like a replacement player against good pitchers.
It would be nice if the Yankees could hit with runners in scoring position (0-fer again tonight).
It would be nice if the Yankees had some fight in them.
It would be nice if pigs could fly, but it ain't happening (on second thought, that wouldn't be nice).
- Carl Pavano has a stiff neck. Other shocking news: the sky is blue. (It sounds like the Yanks are going to force Pavano to throw. Good for them.)

Those who know more than I do
about the intricacies of lineup construction:
Would it help A-Rod at all to have better protection — say, Gojira or the X-Man instead of His ’Stacheness?

from what i've read
hitters benefit more from protection in front of them than behind. if damon, jeter and abreu are hitting/getting on base, it will help Arod more than if giambi, matsui and nady are hitting.

But Damon, Jeter and Abreu
are hitting and getting on base. Just rarely at the same time.

then it's up to Arod
but he hasn’t been getting the job done. Damon is having an above average year (for him), but DJ and Abreu are having below average years.
but dont worry. i’m sure he’ll bounce back next year with an MVP-type season. it’s his MO.

Jeter yes
Abreu is almost exactly where he was last year no?

actually
he’s a bit better than last year (another knock on Arod), but 2008 has been below average compared to his career average.

The Sopranos couldn't give Arod protection ...
if he’s not making contact. Burnett beat him like a rented mule, last night. There’s no life on this team. It’s sad to watch. Rasner gave a great performance, and our bats were no where to be found. Okay, props to Burnett (and yes, when he opts out after the season, I’d be standing in line to talk to him about the pinstripes), but we did nothing with runners on and in scoring position. We are lifeless. We are done.

No Fight
Is right. They have a manager that hasn’t pushed the right buttons all year. He just doesn’t seem to get the best out of his players. This is a veteren team and at times Girardi looks like a deer in the headlights. In years past when they started slowly you knew they would turn it on and make the playoffs. You never got that warm & cozy feeling this year. Girardi came into a tough situation as he was now asked to manage players he played with and against. They know the good, bad & ugly of his playing days and I believe they all had a opinion before he stepped into that dugout. This is not a young Florida Marlin club who know him as a former catcher and very knowledgeable & fiery manager that would even argue with his owner while in the dugout. Is he a good manager? I believe so. Is he the right manager for the Yankees? I don’t think so as this situation doesn’t seem to fit him.
