Around SBN: The Worst Season of Francisco Rodriguez's Career Bar-right-arrows

spread the word

Bronx Bound- Holiday Weekend Edition

Looking at all the blank spot on my graph just drives home the point: pitching is fragile.  Of the 15 pitchers I've followed this season, I'd say 10 of them have been on the DL at some point.

Chris Britton is back in action with the Gulf Coast Yankees.  In an exclusive PA interview, Kiley McDaniel of the SaberScouting blog said he trusted the Yankees FO on not using Britton, I'd still like to see him get at least half the shot that Edwar has gotten.

While JB Cox has only allowed 15 hits in 19IP at AAA, he's also allowed 8BB.  You've got to know where it's going before you're going to the bigs.

Daniel McCutchen threw a 5 hit shutout for Scranton last night to follow up six-innings of one run ball his previous outing.  You want to see guys move up on a hot streak; make the call Cash.

Likewise, Mark Melancon has allowed 28 baserunners (H+BB) against 37K in 36.1IP at Trenton.  In other news, Kyle Farnsworth still has a parking spot at Yankee Stadium.

Jose Tabata finally started to hit the way we all thought he could (12 for 27, .444, with a double and a homer) and he pulls a hammy.  He'll be rehabbing at the Tampa complex.  Via Mike Ashmore:

“It seems to be a fairly severe injury,” said Franklin of Jose Tabata’s hamstring injury.

He did not give a timetable on Tabata’s return.

“He’s not going to be rushed back.  It takes a little time to come back from those injuries, it’s a very sensitive and delicate area.”

Without further ado:

Postition?

Is there a way to add positions to you list so we can see where to expect those prospects in the Majors. SP, RP, OF etc…

I could, I guess

But the breakdown is pretty simple.
For the hitters, Montero is a catcher, Miranda is a 1B, the rest are outfielders (Jackson and Gardner are CF).
For the pitchers, Betances, Horne, Marquez, McCutchen, McAllister are starters (and could become relievers to make it to the show). Sanchez has been a starter and will be getting “starts” to build up his arm strength post TJ, but profiles as a reliever long term.

Re: McCutchen

One of the things I like most about McCutchen is that he doesn’t give up many free passes and his K/BB ratio in Scranton right now is very impressive at 5/1.

However, he does give up a lot of fly balls and that could translate to being prone to long balls in the bigs. Even with his dominating performance last night (9 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10K), his GB/FB ratio was 4/12.

So, of the 16 balls that were put into play – 12 were hit in the air. That’s concerning to me.

Cashman has said many times – and has proved with his actions – that young players who perform in the minors can and will get a shot to help the big club. If McCutchen keeps it up, he’ll probably make his debut at some point this season as well.
