Do or Die?

Do you guys think it is too early to throw is the towel and rebuild for this season onl?

They have a pile of Free Agents like Mike Mussina, Giambi and others that are having very solid years and could get back a AAA stud in return. We don't have to make a run EVERY season, do we?

They have lost 2 games to BOS so far and if it continues, I would love to see the Yanks be SELLERS for once and get back some your studs to add to their young talent. Saving that money (rookies are cheap) will also free up more cash for star players like C.C Sabathia and Texiera and maybe an OFer as well.

What do you guys think?

Rebuilding

I’ve always considered this a rebuilding season. We’re just a little different than other teams when we rebuild because we still had a chance of competing for a championship. At this point in the season, it’s still possible for us to reach the playoffs, but I’d rather we stock up our team for next year. I think we have a ridiculously good chance of being great next year, and I kind of think we’re already following that path. I wouldn’t say we’re throwing in the towel, but we’ve been giving our young guys a chance all season and I only see that getting more relevant with Gardner called up and Kennedy and Hughes coming back not too far from now, and with Joba getting in his growing pains as a starter.

Either way, at the end of this year we’ll be dumping a lot of cash, so CC and Texiera will probably find their way here somehow.

Re: Payroll

They do have a lot of cash coming off the books (over $80M, I believe), but that doesn’t mean the team is going to spend money like a drunken sailor this offseason.

Cashman has waited three years to get the payroll down and I don’t think he’s just going to drive it back up again at the snap of his finger.

They might get one or the other, but I don’t think both Sabathia and Teixeira is coming to the Bronx.

A big reason why the Yanks are in this mess in the first place was their reliance in past years on big long term deals to shiny new whistles.

True

That is true, I really don’t want them to blow the payroll up again.

Also, looks like CC will be going anywhere but NY. As long as the Braves are in the NL race though they’ll probably hold on to Texeira until the end of the season, so we might get him in the offseason off the free agent market. We’ll have to wait and see.
