BREAKING NEWS:
Jorge Posada will have season-ending surgery on his ailing shoulder now that the Yanks have acquired Xavier Nady.
This absolutely makes sense and was the only logical thing to do. This season is essentially a lost one for Posada already and it doesn't make any sense at all to risk his health for 2009 as well.

Posada's surgery
Labrum surgery is very difficult to come back from. Very few major leaguer pitchers have come back successfully fromthis surgery. Currently, Jon Rauch of the Diamondbacks has returned to his former ability to throw as has Chris Carpenter of the Cardinals (and now he is trying to come back from TJS). Dwight Gooden came back nicely from the surgery, but never had the same velocity.
Former major league pitchers such as Jason Schmidt and Mark Mulder are still trying to return from torn labrums – several seasons after getting labrum surgery. Their comebacks are always being set back by more complications. And catchers throw much more than pitchers.
This is not a 6 month process as has been reported. I know – I tore my labrum while pitching and was not able to fully throw without complications for two years – and the velocity was nowhere near the same.
Posada’s catching days could be over.
This is hardly shocking
I made the point yesterday that the Yanks often suffer a letdown after a series with the Red Sox.
And they’ve had problems against the O’s and Angels so this won’t be an easy week.
Yikes....
Alan Horne couldn’t have been worse tonight for Scranton:
1.0 IP, 2 H, 5 ER, 5 BB, 0 K—43 pitches, only 16 strikes
Horne has just had a horrendous season any way you cut it.
How do we make Kevin Millar look like such a good ballplayer?
It’s really depressing
This is unfortunate
I was hoping that they’d bounce back… 11-0 is hard to overcome.
