PREGAME NOTES:

Yanks make several roster moves:  Newly acquired Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte are expected to be in uniform today.  Nady is in today's starting lineup and will play LF.

Kei Igawa has been removed from the 40-man roster, which essentially means he cleared waivers because nobody wanted him.  So the Yanks are stuck with him.

LaTroy Hawkins has finally been DFA'd.  Brett Gardner has been sent back down to Scranton.

Yanks have won 7 straight games and 12 of 15.  They have also won 11 straight games in which they've scored first.

Andy Pettitte is a lifetime 15-7, 3.61 ERA, 1.37 WHIP in 30 games (28 starts) against the Red Sox.  He is 6-2, 2.18 ERA, 1.02 WHIP over his last 8 starts.

Tim Wakefield is a lifetime 9-16, 5.01 ERA, 1.42 WHIP in 46 games (29 starts) against the Yanks.  He is 5-2, 3.04 ERA, 1.07 WHIP in 8 starts at Fenway this season.

Red Sock hitters vs. Pettitte can be viewed here.  Yanks' hitters vs. Wakefield can be viewed here.

Was looking forward to watching this

on Fox, but am at the Jersey Shore with my wife’s family…and the damn Phillies/Braves game has knocked the game off Fox locally. Bummer.

On the topic of trades that will never happen (see Halladay, Roy), how about we swing a deal with the Sox for Ramirez?

See: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/07/might-sox-try-t.html

That would be interesting.

I don't see that happening

Manny’s antics will never fly in that Yanke clubhouse.

There's no way that Theo

would ever trade Manny to the Yanks, but you wouldn’t take his bat? Really?

I don't think that Tiger will change his stripes

And Theo will do everything he can to trade him to the NL.

I’m just saying – the “Manny being Manny” stuff will never fly in the Bronx and I don’t think Cashman wants anything to do with him.

It has nothing to do with his production. He just has too much baggage.

by anaconda on Jul 26, 2008 4:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Still,

I am getting the feeling he will be in pinstripes, he will cut off his braids and become a Yankee. He is from Washington Heights afterall. :)

by bronxbound on Jul 26, 2008 11:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

too add..

Maybe “Manny being Manny” is just his way of he is homesick.

I live in the Jersey Shore....

.....and this is Mets and Yankees TV territory. I’m watching the yanks now on FOX. No Phillies games ever get broadcast here. Where in the shore is this abortion of justice happening?!

You must be in the north jersey shore...

...I’m in Stone Harbor, Phillies terrain.

this ump really fuckin sucks

by nastynate0909 on Jul 26, 2008 4:24 PM EDT   0 recs

Robby!

That one went a long way.

by long time listener on Jul 26, 2008 5:00 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah...

Robinson’s really been killing lately.

by dzawaki on Jul 26, 2008 5:17 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Didn't like that

Why run yourself out of an inning when you’ve got a significant bat at the plate? One we just traded for specifically to get RBI’s? Questionable managerial thinking says I.

by nitlion007 on Jul 26, 2008 5:31 PM EDT   0 recs

Melky has actually had a good series

It’s about time. It’s the first good series he’s had since April.

by anaconda on Jul 26, 2008 5:42 PM EDT   0 recs

a rod

base hit here ends it

by nastynate0909 on Jul 26, 2008 5:53 PM EDT   0 recs

well that's just great

now damon gets hurt again? Time to call Bonds. Just kidding. I think.

by long time listener on Jul 26, 2008 6:40 PM EDT   0 recs

could be just a cramp

It’s a really hot and humid day up here – been working in the garden and feeling it.
And I’m wearing shorts and sandals. Can’t imagine it in full uniform.

And here's the payback

Classy Boston fans – applauding that.

by mrljdavid on Jul 26, 2008 6:47 PM EDT   0 recs

hope

arod was just playing n that didn’t really hurt that much

by emille2 on Jul 26, 2008 6:48 PM EDT   0 recs

if farnsworth

is in next inning, he won’t be shy about responding and the warning won’t effect him

by emille2 on Jul 26, 2008 6:49 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah, but then Watson will probably suspend Farnsworth for 2 months.

by long time listener on Jul 26, 2008 6:51 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

new here

so what’s going on everyone

by emille2 on Jul 26, 2008 6:52 PM EDT   0 recs

howdy

On the plus side, we’re smoking the sox.

On the negative side, I just gouged the crap out of my hand with a chisel working in the backyard.

by mrljdavid on Jul 26, 2008 6:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

If Farnsworth comes near one of their players

He’ll get tossed and suspended and so will Girardi. Warnings have been issued.

by anaconda on Jul 26, 2008 6:52 PM EDT   0 recs

Wait

Professor Farnsworth suspended? What’s the downside?

by mrljdavid on Jul 26, 2008 6:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

agree

I don’t care about whatever streak he’s been on….we saw last night the true farnsworth and if we needed Mo tonight, he probably would’ve been unavailable

by emille2 on Jul 26, 2008 6:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

hellsyeah...stick that in your HBP and smoke it.

Nice job Robby.

Fox announcers just said they might pull A-Rod – “he’s in pain”

by mrljdavid on Jul 26, 2008 6:54 PM EDT   0 recs

Washburn

what you guys think about him and his fit with the yanks? We get him, he’s available to pitch tomorrow night to probably sweep if the score holds up

by emille2 on Jul 26, 2008 7:00 PM EDT   0 recs

Ugh...pass

Fat contract, stuck with him for next year too, mediocre stats in a pitcher’s park. I’ll take my chances with Sir Sidney – least he’s on a hot streak. Plus we don’t even know what we’d be giving up. Unless they take him straight up for, say, Igawa and Hawkins.

by mrljdavid on Jul 26, 2008 7:04 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't like it

I’d rather not have him in the rotation next season.

by anaconda on Jul 26, 2008 7:07 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yea

I think if they are going to take a chance and sign anyone, why not Chacon? They took a chance with Ponson who doesn’t have the most savory background, but yea they don’t need Washburn next year

by emille2 on Jul 26, 2008 7:10 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

maybe they can flip washburn in the offseason

He can help us this year, then they can figure out what to do with him once they settle on who else is going to be around. It’ll give them some leverage in CC/Sheets negotiations, as well as when they’re looking to re-sign their own guys.

by long time listener on Jul 26, 2008 7:46 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You know what's the most impressive thing to me about this streak?

They are beating up on strong teams – this isn’t feasting on the Mariners and Royals. They beat the A’s, Twins and Sox.
And the pitching has been outstanding. How much of this is due to Molina behind the plate?

by mrljdavid on Jul 26, 2008 7:21 PM EDT   0 recs

It just goes to show you

that this can be a championship-caliber team if they stack the rotation next season. I think signing Sabathia might be the best way to ensure this team will be as good as anyone next season.

by anaconda on Jul 26, 2008 7:31 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

2 out

hitting has been better…as for Molina, his ability to keep men at first with his around 50% caught stealing has been huge as well
