Yanks have tentative deal with Sexson

Many of us knew it would happen.

Buster Olney is reporting the Yankees and Richie Sexson have reached a tentative agreement.

Sexson fits in New York because the Yankees needed a right-handed slugger to match up against left-handed pitching -- and Sexson had a .344 average against lefties this year.

Assuming the deal is completed, he'll be in the lineup Saturday against Oakland.

I have said all along I think this a low risk, no lose situation. Worse thing that happens is he stinks and they cut him. A little more right handed pop should help though.

Pirate deal possible too

OK, blame me if it’s a bust with Sexon.
Tim K says the Yanks are talking to the Pirates for Nady or Bay,,,I would love to get Marte too, but that’s dreaming…

I don't want Nady

He’s playing well above his career numbers and the Pirates would be selling high on him. That would be a sucker trade for the Yanks because they would have to give up a good sum for him.

Bay is obviously the better option but he’ll cost a lot more. I’m not sure Cashman is going to be willing to pay the price.

yeah i'm with you... no nady

but bay would look nice in pinstripes… but yeah, i don’t think cashman would pay the price. unless he decides he’s feeling good about the ML pitching situation and decides to ship out a couple of young arms.. should be interesting the next couple weeks.

Defensive

How is Sexson defensively? I will assume he will play some 1b.

Seemed pretty good today.

And, from what my Mariner-fan friend tells me, he’s a pretty good defensive infielder.
